Trade Deadline ... A Couple of Ideas

With the trade deadline right around the corner, I thought we could use a thread to toss around trade ideas using the ESPN NBA trade machine, and then saying why we think the trade benefits each team.

Trade Idea #1:

Marvin Williams and John Lucas (or similarly priced player) for Charlotte's expiring Ben Gordon contract and the Detroit Piston's pick they own.
https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=p7umrch

Charlotte does it because they are desperate to get into the playoffs this year. They signed Al to a huge contract, and are looking to win now. They know Al won't be a good player for the length of his contract, and they're tired of constantly being in a rebuild. Marvin Williams can play the 3, or the 4 for them. He's played with Big Al before, and can add a defensive and 3 pt threat to the team. If everything works out, they sign Marvin to a larger deal in the offseason and let JLIII walk.

Utah does it because Ben Gordon is an expiring contract. Although Marvin has flourished, he isn't a natural stretch 4 like KLove or Ryan Anderson. He's a good player, but not sure he's the stretch 4 of the future. We are in asset accumulation mode, and in desperate need of that #1 guy. Marvin is a known commodity who is playing above his averages because he's in a contract year on a bad team, therefore we shouldn't read too much into what he's doing (but should let Charlotte). That Detroit pick, the GSW pick, and our own pick give us more leverage come draft night (don't think there will be much wiggle room in early lottery, but maybe Detroit and GSW could get us a better late lottery pick).

Trade Idea #2

Admittedly, this one's kind of crazy for both sides.

Trey Burke, Gordon Hayward, Brandon Rush and the GSW pick to the Celtics for Rajon Rondo and their first rounder this year.
https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ks9rkaz

Boston does it because of the chemistry they know is there. Trey Burke's childhood best bud is Jared Sullinger, and as you know, Gordon Hayward is Brad Stevens' pride and joy. Brandon Rush was a quality player at one time, and should his knee ever fully heal (and he has an offseason to shed the injury weight), he could be a good 3&D for them.

The Jazz do it because they'd be getting a legit All Star - ring holding - veteran PG who is an incredible facilitator/defender, and a lottery pick that could help them grab another potential star. They're letting two of their young starters go, but the potential reward is high.

Trade Idea #3 (highly unlikely)

Marvin, Kanter, and the GSW pick for Kevin Love.
https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n2ank9l

Minnesota does it because they are fearful they won't be able to keep Kevin Love after not getting in the playoffs this year. He's openly criticized his teammates before. They get Kanter (who may yet turn into a star), Marvin Williams who is a solid rotation player who can hit the 3's and defend, the GSW pick (which may end up in the lottery with warriors being in the 8th seed right now), and more ping pong balls for their own pick.

Utah does it because it's Kevin Love: a real stretch 4 to play alongside Favors and Gobert. Our tank has gone awry anyways, so getting a true star now would be great. It would probably take some time to figure out the chemistry, and by the time that happened the season would be over, and our draft stock very similar to what it is now (still in the lottery, but very little hope for top 3 pick).

Thoughts? Trade ideas of your own? Discuss.

Wolves would want more for Love. Would have to include Hayward or Burks and an additional 1st round pick.

If Love doesn't like Minny he won't like Utah either.

Charlotte, Memphis or Phoenix seem like the best trade partners. Detroit (Villanueva) is a possibility. Still think those are all longshots. Lindsey will sit tight and keep maximum cap space open for this summer. He scored on the trade with GS. He may want to try to get lucky again by being a trade facilitator. Or cherry pick and try to get a very good FA on the cheap when other teams have exhausted their cap room.

Interesting. I think the bobcats would like rush and Williams more than lucas. I hope something happens at the trade deadline and if not, I hope a lot of little injuries find the way to our players...

I am torn. I realize Marvin's trade value has probably never been higher. However, I think he's a critical build piece for the future. I want him to stick around for the 4-6 million that Locke has been talking about. In my mind, he is a long term asset and not just a short term "trade bait" guy.

He'd be a great piece on our future team, but I would sacrifice him for a chance at a potential star.

Bobcats trade not the worst idea ever, probly not enough to snag the Pistons pick doe.

on the app. square bizness.

Why would we ever want Rondo? I don't see him as a fit here and don't want to give up near what you are proposing in the 2nd trade.

Idea: Trade Hayward to the Suns for Alex Len, Archie Goodwin, Washingtons 2014 1st rounder and Minnesota's Protected pick

this kills many birds with 1 stone

I like trade idea #2. Rondo/Burks/Favors/Kanter + 2 potential top 10 picks this year, let's do it

Corbin + Rondo =

here's another highly unlikely trade idea.

Trey Burke, Marvin Williams, the GSW pick, and our 2015 pick for Kyrie Irving, Alonzo Gee and Earl Clark
https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kblet3a

Jazz do it because it's Kyrie Irving --an elite level PG. He's a stud, but needs to learn and play in a system. Trey Burke thinks he's a #1 option, and despite his great playmaking ability, they may never be able to convince him not to shoot every time he touches the ball. Irving, on the other hand, has elite skills that would justify his FGAs.

Cavaliers do it because they want to win now, and Kyrie is out of control in Cleveland. They are an organization with no foresight or patience. Marvin Williams is a good player/veteran, and Trey Burke has shown that he has the making of an adequate floor general (if only he passed more). Marvin is an expiring contract who will allow them to be flexible should they ever grow brains. They get to shed two deadweight players in Gee and Clark, and afford to resign Marvin and Dang, and still go after another player in free agency.

Yes, highly unlikely, but one can dream...

I don't want Irving.
