Trade Deadline

Precisely. to talk about Offense and Defense in the NBA like its 2 sides to a coin, is totally not giving enough credit to just how good some of the offensive players in the NBA are..

The part about Burks not being in Utah's long-term plans is misguided though and lacking perspective/vision, especially to point out injuries as a reason why. Do you think charlotte's going to give up on MKG because of injuries? or washington's gonna give up on Brad Beal because of injuries?? No, and Burks costs less than those players, on a team with much more capspace/room to grow.

Burks needs to be the guy who drives to the hoop and break the opposing team's defense down. He needs to be more selfish. Now that he has a solid three he has the potential to be much more dynamic and problematic. When the offense can't get it going and the play-calling sucks is when Burks should get the ball and do his thing.

Teague now appears to be unrealistic because Atlanta wants too much. I expect DL to go after Hill. If that fails, what about Brooks and Hinrich from Chicago? Bulls can avoid paying the tax if they trade both. They wouldn't want players back in that case. Too lazy to look it up, but they'd pay at least $4.8M in tax at a 1:1 penalty. So offloading them now would save that much (or more) PLUS the remainder of their salaries for this season. Brooks is a career 37% 3PT shooter; Hinrich is 38% (and 41% this season). Do we really need a traditional PG if Hood and Hayward are doing most of the play making? Adding those two would also provide depth if Burks doesn't return soon or is slow to return to game shape.

Both contracts are also expiring, so no effect on having Exum start next season, or making a future deal. All it does is use up cap space for this season.

Why trade for both? We'd have those two, Burke and Neto at the point. Seems sort of pointless to me and like a negligible upgrade given their chemistry with our guys would be presumably meh too erly on. I'd rather roll with our own soldiers I think.

My hell!! Your like a kid in the candy store when it comes to the NBA trade market.

Why's that? Jazz need more 3PT shooting. Brooks isn't a prototypical PG but I don't think Utah really needs one, Hood said in his interview that even IF DL traded for a PG, he and Hayward would still be running the offense. Hinrich is also a very good shooter. Would he not be an upgrade over Johnson?

Yes, it's a minor deal. But one that, IMO, makes sense for both teams IF Lindsey can't get Teague or Hill. Chicago gets under the tax level; Utah adds 3PT shooting and some depth in case of injuries to their guards. Probably wouldn't cost the Jazz very much and has ZERO impact long-term. But, sorry for voicing my opinion. I thought we were allowed to do that on a fan board.

I think this was my 2nd trade idea. In the other I gave a reason why they could help Miami get under the tax threshold. That it would involve getting Stokes made it humorous, IMO. But no less plausible since Utah would benefit (by switching picks next year). Again, sorry I didn't suggest a way to get us Curry for Burke or Lebron for Ingles.

It's utterly excessive and ridiculous to trade for them. It's overkill. It would halt the progression of Neto, and don't see either being an upgrade to Burks. There is utterly no reason for the trade which is why I said kid in a candy store. It's trading just to make a trade.

First off. It seems that the majority of jazzfanz don't value Burks much and want him traded.

Secondly, the jazz extended him to the longest contract on the entire team and last year would not shut up about how excited they were to get Burks back and how they didn't care about adding players to the team because getting Burks back would be like getting a big free agent acquisition.
Every time a jazz front office person or coach talk about burks they seem to truly love him what he brings to the team.
The jazz sorely need his scoring off the bench... That much is obvious

Cool. All I know is what I've heard and what I've heard is Burks is not in their long term plans.

How would Hood force Favors out of the core? Favors is the best player on this team and plays a different position than Hood. If anything Hood is making Hayward expendable.

It would come down to Hayward vs Favors. Hayward is more durable, more reliable and more important.

Hayward and Hood shooting threes with Exum and Gobert running P&R is very dangerous. More dangerous than Favors and Gobert clogging the lane.

This is a good post. So many people on this board don't realize how good a defender Exum is. Seriously - if you're shutting down or at least impeding the other team's point guard it's a pretty big deal. Plus he's going to improve in every aspect of the game.

Exum is Utah's future. He isn't going anywhere. I've never heard Lindsay talk about anyone like he talks about Exum.

Umm No.. The defense that Gobert/Favors give this team is far more important than any 3pt shooting that can come from anyone else. It's been proven time and time again that great teams have a great defense. Notice the teams record when Rudy or Favs were hurt. And then look up the record when Hayward was shooting terrible like at the beginning of the year. You trade Favors and we will be back to a lottery team. Have you noticed how much better the offense flows with him back in the lineup? If they decide to trade Favors, it's because they believe this group can't win one. And they have decided to blow it up and start over. As far as the PnR with Gobert... That can't happen until Gobert grows a pair of hands. The guy has terrible hands for a guy his size.

If he ends up not being very good then he may be going somewhere
