Trade Partners for TB

Thanks for clarifying the trade thing. That's a big difference in what was happening at draft time then what I thought. I thought they were actively shopping him; not so. I'm sure Burke will fight tooth and nail to be no worse then backup pg.

No the report said the team was actively looking to trade Burke, but for nothing less than what DL thought was equal value for Burke.

I was beyond excited when we drafted Trey, I thought he was gonna be the PG of the future. He showed good passing skills and a decent jump shot...I don't know what happened but he is not the player I thought he was gonna be. I agree that he could, and probably will, improve. But I'm not expecting him to get much better. It's sad though, he could have been great

You don't trade a 2nd year lotto pick unless you get good value. Especially since he's part of the cake. Patience people.

Burke is now projecting to be a back up, and one with growth potential. He's coachable, a team player, and has the clutch gene. Dude is fearless, often to his detriment. But remember, he's an ingredient, on on cheap deal. Our money's on X, developing Burke is worth the opportunity cost.

This is a big year for him. It will determine his fate. I like the guy, I hope he figures it out.

This is said so many times because he made some shots his rookie season. So what was his "clutch" number last year? Sorry but when you're shooting 37%/32% and insist on taking 13 shots/per, you shoot your team out of games far more often than hitting a big shot in the 4th quarter.

At this point I think it's fair to say that the Jazz FO sees much more in Burke than you do. I mean, he didn't suit up for Summer League, and I think he would have if he were seriously competing for a job.

Personally, I'm still half expecting a small trade featuring Burke, but that is quickly reducing from half. Probably best to start hoping he puts things together... and that the FO is confident that he will (to some extent, at least).

If they are shopping him, no way they put him in SL.

Bailing on our lotto pick, BACKUP PG after 2 seasons? Who are we? The Kings? Upgrading the backup PG ain't what's standing between the Jazz and contention, folks. You give him at least till ASB. At least.

3rd year players rarely play in SL. Hell 2nd year players that played decent amount of minutes in their rookie seasons rarely play more than spot minutes in SL. No way a guy with the minutes Burke got in the regular season going to be asked or agree to go play in SL. Nothing to be gained by it. He's got a fight on his hands in camp for the backup PG spot. If he loses that battle for backup PG he'll have no worth in a trade. So if the Jazz feel he is likely to lose that battle, then they need to trade him before hand.

Losing the back up spot is a possibility. Its also a possibility that he outplays Exum and earns a starting spot.

The team has more to gain from waiting and seeing how he plays this season then trading him.

Never going to happen. Even if Exum struggles offensively and Burke shoots lights out, Utah has committed to Dante as the starter. Maybe you'd see Dante play a little less and Burke a little more, but you don't change the chemistry of the starting unit, especially when Exum has shown such great defensive ability.

I do agree a trade is NOT going to happen in the near future. Unless a team has a season-ending injury to a PG, I don't see anything transpiring until near the deadline. DL already shopped him and didn't receive any acceptable offers. Jazz need Burke to establish value by playing well. If he does, they can get a decent return. But that also depends on if they feel Neto and Cotton are ready to move up - in some order - to #2 and #3.

Of course, if Burke is playing well and the Jazz are fighting for playoff position, why weaken the team, even if they're going to try to trade him again next summer. And if he's shooting poorly again, he doesn't have less value than he has right now.

I like your balanced approach to Trey Burke, but that bold stuff is ****, man.

I want Exum to start. I think his potential is really high. I do think the Jazz are committed to him. I dont think our Coach would leave Exum as starter if he is really getting outplayed night in and night out by Burke. Coach would lose respect so fast from the players if he did that, that does not seem like a Quinn move to me.

Of course my hope is they both come out and play incredible, Exum stays starting and Burke comes off the bench and kills it.
