Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

But you ignore this season. By saying DA would do it you assume DA has no interest in being competitive this year.
Danny tore down a team that was a perennial playoff team for a team that, this year, will be a play in team at best. Does that mean he has no interest in being competitive this year? Or does it mean he sees a brighter opportunity beyond this season?

He may not want to be as tanktastic as the process sixers.... but I think he'd gladly sacrifice one season to benefit the long term. I'm not sure Ryan would be cool with that. With Lauri, Sexton, Kessler, and the other stuff we are left with we will still be good enough to develop guys... you want to avoid playing 48 minutes of uncompetitive meaningless basketball... but the benefits of improving the asset base as well as dev time for the young guys will provide more experience than a run at the 8 seed.

Oh and I thought Lakers only had '27 and '29 picks.
It depends... NO has an option to receive either the 2024 or 2025 pick from them. If they suck next year then NO likely takes 2024 and the 26 pick can be conveyed.

Exactly how long is it going to take just to get back to ground zero? I.,e., three players as skilled as Clarkson, Olynyk and Beasley?
One guy we received in a trade for a busted prospect and second round picks, one guy we traded an expiring contract for and one guy was a throw in for a big trade.

KO also signed a 12M a year deal in effing Detroit. Give me 42M in cap space (what they will cost) and a pick and I will trade/sign equivalent talent with more long term value/upside. Starter level talent is easily replaceable... landing star talent is the hard thing... we need to worry about stars much more.

Starter level?

Starter level?
Players who are good enough to be solid starters...

Players traded for one mediocre pick in the last 12-18 months include:

- Derrick White
- Malcolm Brogdon
- Al Horford
- Caris LeVert
- Christian Wood
- Jerami Grant

Those types aren't all that hard to find. Especially if you have some other parts in place and have cap space and picks to make deals.

Yeah but those teams were either escaping luxury tax hell or were just dumb as ****!

For me I try and start with the end in mind... fast forward to draft night. Would you trade the #14 pick, JC/KO/Beasley on expiring deals for 30M in cap space, #7 pick, and the Lakers pick unprotected in 25/26? Of course... we all would... and that ignores the bump up in swap rights of the other pick.
Interesting way to put it. Yes I would make that trade. Its a no brainer.

Also Kevin Huerter....

They weren't dumb... every year there are some sellers... SA became a seller, Houston was a seller, Indiana became a seller. Every year there will be teams that sell off starter level talent.

You can also sign a bunch of dudes in that talent tier... the Jazz have two ways to get stars... draft em or trade for em... trading for them is VERY expensive. We have a bunch of cheaper ways to get starter level talent. I'm just not worried about replacing those guys.

The other thing is keeping all those guys means you have no cap space. it also means you have nowhere to put your 3 incoming 1st round picks... like it or not some of these guys won't be around. Cash in if you can.

God that Kevin Huerter deal was such a homerun for Sac.

Okay well at least now you’re referring to them as starter level. SITRD IMO.
