Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

We're reportedly still interested in John Collins but I'm not sure how he fits with Lauri / Kessler
My biggest fear is he’s regressed so much this year, and he has the contract he has. That alone hurts the jazz future big time. Would he be better with the jazz? I think so, but how much better. He might be better than Vando now, but Vando is a player in progression, I think he’s one of those players in a slow progression, but IMO he will continue to progress into a very good player. Mark my words he will be a far better player than Collins. I could be wrong but that’s what my gut tells me. It would be a huge mistake to trade him. He can help us lose now and win later.

Yeah, I don't think he was 5'6". I did, however, think he was 5'11" but after looking him up I'm pretty sure it's Jalen Brunson I'm confusing him with.

ETA: damn, Brunson is 6'1". Who's the guy who's 5'11"?
I think FVV is likely right around Brunson size... He's an MFer on defense though. He's super smart... but he has durability concerns and when he is dinged up it really affects his performance.

There could be other guys DA has in mind of course. Threw that name out as one of the bigger FA that is likely changing teams in the next 7 months.

The impression I get from multiple media types... both local and national... We are interested in Collins but not super interested... we are only interested if we get a pick too. It was described as he's a guy we like but not a guy we are targeting if that makes sense. I think Ainge has zero problem walking away if he doesn't get a pick. I think he smells blood in the water in Atlanta.

Overall your assessment is definitely fair. The funny thing is I’ve been one of if not the biggest Conley defenders on here the last few years.
There are nights I get frustrated with Conley cuz guys are shooting over and through him... he's limited. Against the Hornets the other night he had like a 2 minute stretch where he was a terror on defense and I was like... Holy hell where has this been. Mike's great at maneuvering through screens and generally staying in front... he knows where to be. Sexton drifts in no mans land off ball too much still and sometimes for seemingly no reason. I think he also gets into guys and is really annoying when he is on ball. I don't think either guy is worse than Beasley on defense.

The biggest loss when it comes to Mike on court is we have a bunch of guys that tend to skew more towards creating shots for themselves... I wouldn't say selfish... but we have guys that I think prefer to score than set up guys. Removing Mike may create a semi-toxic dynamic there. If you traded Mike and got Kennard I'd definitely move Beasley too. I think that could help. I also think if Collin is playing more minutes he could be more ball movement oriented as he knows he will have his opportunities.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. We definitely have to move Beasley if we got Kennard. Sexton has been a pretty good playmaker when he starts at PG. I know our record wasn’t the best but he was averaging 5 APG and had a 5 game stretch there where he averaged 7 APG. A lot of easy assists from Conley go to Lauri coming off screens and curls which Sexton would become the beneficiary of.

There's a chance that the Lakers would reset quickly and the picks could be garbage but the two years before the whole league would fantasize about them and could be used in other trades. Hmm, if Kessler developed a shot then that's an just under an Jokic type of player but with an emphasis on the interior game...maybe not trade, but maybe I do...if we could get Victor somehow.
If you trade Walker for those picks then you may as well move Lauri too. Us being good on Lauri's timeframe requires us pairing him with good players like Walker sooner rather than later. I don't think its bad value per se... rookies can get over-rated and I think the Lakers are headed towards being a dumpster fire.

I wouldn't move Walker for that deal. His size, movement, coordination, and IQ may mean his ceiling is quite a bit higher than we think. I think Rudy is going to be more elite at a few things than Walker will be in his career, but I think Walker may be way better at smoothing out the holes in his game and could become a better playoff performer than Rudy was.

Also the two man combo of Walker and Lauri is a net +10.4 - that is very exciting to build around... and you can see how that will be a dominant defensive duo. Lauri is a good rim protector but not a constant rim protector. Lauri moves so well on the perimeter that it gives you the secondary defender that Rudy only had once in Favs... but the offense was iffy with that group. Lauri being a damn flame thrower makes that frontcourt good on both ends. Add some perimeter defense and some playmaking and you are really on to something. The best defenses generally have that rim protecting front like Lopez and Giannis, JJJ and Adams, Horford/Williams... we have a real base to build off of.

Sexton also played different as a starter... which is encouraging... but you could see the wheels turning so it wasn't quite natural. He is able to collapse the defense and hit guys in the corner... its a simple read but really effective. Not everything has to be a Jokic cross court pass. I think its a game management thing... knowing when to score, when to setup a guy, when to take a certain shot, when to slow down... Conley is a maestro with that stuff.

I think we are both in the same place and I like talking it out this way. I'm good moving Mike if we get more than just cap space. It might be painful but the info is valuable and I do want to see if Sexton can take that next step. I worry about the long term effect if he is just okay in that role and we bring someone in to replace him as a starter, but he has to be self-aware and be a team player too. I love the guy and his energy is fun as hell. You never question if Collin wants to play basketball tonight.

Another wrinkle is that the Jazz clearly dont want Sexton being a starter. If you trade Conley that kind of forces you into starting Sexton.

One situation to monitor too is Tyus Jones. I think Memphis rolls forward as is this year but I could see Tyus wanting a starting role next year and Memphis wanting stability at the backup pg. I could see an offseason deal of Mike to Memphis for Tyus. We give a pick in the deal so Memphis doesn't lose Tyus for nothing.

Its cool being the best backup in the league but Tyus will want to be paid as a starter and might have outgrown that role

Id give up Sexton and the Brooklyn pick for Tyus. Memphis loves drafting late 1st round.

I think it is the fact that you are so spectacularly wrong on soooo many things the act with smugness and disdain toward other posters. Your lack of self awareness is almost like nothing I have ever seen.
I can bring up post of every user being spectacularly wrong on any given topic.
