he does not have a highly reliable 3 point shooting ability at all yet, despite the small sample size % of .171 of his shots were attempted from deep taking 29 total 3's so far this season. But it is priomising that he made 12 of them which is more than even attempted total in his previous 4 seasons. If he could take about 5 per game and average over 33% he would surpass DFS in Dallas who is a similar defender.
I was not comparing his shooting to Dre at all, I said Dre is a much better playmaker. Vander is developing a decent iq for making a good read and keeping the ball moving. He is nothing close to Dre as far as initiating an offense.

Given his age and hustle, I could easily see a young team throwing $45/3 years at Vanderbilt if he was a free agent right now. If a player could be making 3-4x more than they are currently making in a free market, then they are underpaid.

Vanderbilt is on a fantastic contract, is only 23, and has shown fantastic improvement over the past 4 years. Though infrequent he has added a 3-ball, has improved a lot as a passer and court vision, gives his all. I understand not liking a Draymond comparison but saying he isn't extremely underpaid is just dumb.

Vando could easily get 3/30M. At absolute worst 3/24M which is still double what he’s making now. I really wouldn’t be shocked if he got 3/36M.

Unfortunately think it's coming between now and the deadline. Too much smoke out there and the WC is a little weaker than expected.
Some team such as the faltering Bulls is going to gift them an all star for those '27/'29 picks. Maybe Washington sends them Beal. It's likely going to be something fairly big.

They are similar sized versatile high energy players who do a litte bit of everything on the court. One of them is better than the other for obvious reasons (has been in the league for 10 years and plays with possibly the best offensive player of all time and has been in the same system forever) but also a big douche and very expensive and getting old. The other is still learning the game while on a new team with new teammates and coaches and is extremely cheap and extremely young. So the hope is that Vando can develop into what draymond has become.
FWIW when draymond was 23 years old he averaged 1.9 assists per game. 6.2 points per game (41% from the field and 33% from deep). 5 rebounds per game. 1.2 steals (and again, he got to play with steph freaking curry his entire career which is a nice boost to anyone)
Vando at 23 years old averages 2.8 assist per game. 8.8 points per game (61% from the field and 41% from 3). 8.3 rebounds per game. 1.2 steals.

So it looks like Draymond improved from when he was 23 to when he was 32.
Maybe Vando can improve too. That is the hope (and its my expectation to be honest)

Vanderbilt hard to play for most teams. You can't put him on the court next to another non-shooter. No one giving him 15 milly a year.

This is true, it seems like Vando is always doing something dumb to take himself out of a play

Obligatory mention that the cap will jump by about 50% over that time period so $10M in a couple years is like 6-7M now. $10M-ish is kinda his fair market. There are a handful of shooting 5s he can help and at worst he's like a 20-25 minute 3rd big who may be good in switching/blitzing schemes.

I just don't get the Draymond Green comp much... he's more like the modern day Kenneth Faried. Has a little more upside imo but not a lot. If you can get a first for him you do it... anything less just keep him and deal with FA when that day comes. Be prepared to walk if someone gets wild.

This is looking way, way long term...Whatever Ainge ultimately does with the roster he needs to keep powder dry because my gut feeling is Doncic is going to ask out of Dallas within the next 2+ years. The Jazz with all those picks could be a finalist to acquire him. They just need to keep developing young talent, sign guys to reasonable/tradable deals, and hold on to most of those future '27-29 picks and they could be golden. I just feel Danny is going to think big here in the next few seasons...real big.

If they feel someone like Vando (or even Beas) are long term contributors that will only get better *and* can be signed to reasonable, tradable contracts then keep them. If some team is bowling them over with picks/prospects then deal them. Sure I like them alot as roleplaying contributors but they ain't the main course or even #2's on a future championship roster.

Not sure Danny has some master plan... I just think he has a general idea of several paths he can take and makes the next best move that is in front of him that fits those paths. At some point you narrow in and focus... for now he is waiting on good opportunities.

Eh, I dont think any of us remember how cerebral draymond was at 23 years old but im guessing he was ****ing up plenty which is why he had a hard time getting on the court. If he was known to be so cerebral that early on in his career then he is probably a first round draft pick too.

FWIW the jazz played golden state and Draymond and Vando both played in the game earlier this season. Stats from that game:

Green: 13 points on 6-9 shooting. 3 rebounds. 5 assists. 1 steal, 1 block, 2 turnovers. Played 31 minutes
Vando: 13 points on 5-8 shooting. 10 rebounds. 2 assists. 1 steal, zero blocks, 2 turnovers. Played 27 minutes
Seems like those numbers are at least a little bit similar. Again, draymond is the far better defender and playmaker. Also has far more experience, better teammates and gets paid hella more. Vando the better and more efficient scorer on higher volume and better rebounder.

On today's Locked on, Locke basically said he thinks the Jazz will make moves that have a 3-4 year thought process, not a 1 year. But he also said if you beat NOLA twice in a row then go on the road and then go on to beat Milwaukee/Cleveland on the road that could change things. Said if anything one is offering good first for the players we have (assuming he means the Beasley/Sexton/Conley/KO types) they would probably have to take it. Also seemed to imply we were stuck with Sexton because of the contract.

Couple things...

I think Phoenix is handcuffed with the sale of the franchise. Not sure they do anything other than a Jae trade that doesn't add future salary at this point.

GS may be in trouble with Steph... could see a Green trade if the diagnosis is Steph won't be back or will be out months.

WTF does Toronto do? FVV needs to start shooting straight and OG needs to get back... but I wonder which direction they pick.

Atlanta is a dumpster fire... something happens there. Coach likely canned. Probably sell low on Collins finally.

Miami... one year stealth tank? Do they push all in like Pat like to? They have some ammo.

The league is pretty wide open... I expect Bucks and others to push in for some additional short term pieces.

Guys lets not forget few weeks ago most were ready to trade Vando or even urging for it. Has he stepped up since then? For sure.

But as long as Vando and Kessler dont fit on the same court they are in a timeshare situation thats not gonna be good for either one. I just wish Hardy would even try it...

That being said our SF/PF hierarchy is Lauri (3-5), Beasley (2 or 3), KO (4 or pseudo 5), Gay (3 or 4), Tec (2 or 3). I think Beasley is a solid bench scorer but I dont think he is a starter due to his defense plus he really cannot stretch to 4.

So for those positions our age and depth is not optimal. If Vando cannot play alongside Kessler, I dont see how we resolve the PF conundrum without making moves.

My option #1 would be to give a decent go with Vando / Lauri / Kessler combo though. Should kill the other team on the boards at least lol.
