Trey Burke: Sink or Swim?

I'd trade him if we get value... Like a first round pick in the 20-25 range value. If he ever takes a jump in production it will be this year. I think he's a hard worker and can get better... I don't think he's the greatest fit for us right now... We kind of need a steady vet to come off the bench and help is through the lows that Exum goes through.

If not there is no reason to trade him for nothing.

Swim?

He will walk on the water next season. 42/37%, FG & 3P%

I agree. It will click for him. He will come off the bench, he won't have the opportunity to dominate the ball so much, and it will help him. Having Burks/Hood handling the ball more will help Burke out a lot.

Is Burke eligible for the summer league? It couldn't hurt.

Obviously, he's not with us long-term. But unless we could get fair value for him in a trade we'd be crazy not to keep him for at least next season. He's on a dirt cheap rookie deal and he's still an above-average backup PG.

We have two team-option years remaining on his deal, right? Something like that? I'm fine with keeping him in the fold for 1.5 seasons and then trading him (if he's worth anything) or just letting him walk at the end of it.

I've bashed him as much as anyone, but we gave up two draft picks to get him. Let him try and stay on the island.

If he can improve then by all means stay. I'd love for him to get it together and be a Jazzman for a long time. But he has major work to do.

I just don't think Burke has a lot going for himself. He's undersized, yet not fast and not a good shooter. He's not suddenly going to get fast and I don't think a player goes from shooting as bad as he does to being a good shooter. He might improve his shooting but to what degree? His ceiling is being an undersized, slow, almost average shooter who is selfish and has a tendency to chuck.

Sink.

He seems always willing to work hard. Not sure if his ceiling is a starter or a back-up, but I see him being a steady player and a contributor either way.

I am by no means a Burke supporter; however, I keep hearing that he is slow. Seriously, he's not super quick like Curry, Lillard, or Lawson, but he's not really slow either. Probably just average or a little below average for a point guard in the NBA.

Yeah but an undersized poor shooter needs to make up for that somewhere. Being average speed is a very bad thing for a guy like Burke.

This. he may not be "slow" but is not fast enough to make up for his size and length problems. Craftiness (such as that new hesitation move) will help but will only do so much.
