Trey Lyles Highlights from Last Night #1

he also seemed like he wasn't going full speed, unless that's just him. Sorta seemed like he didn't care a whole lot to be out there, tbh.

Yeah I get the same sense, not much urgency but then it could just be his demeanour & nature?

A.) There's a lot of talent there - especially shooting the ball. I love Booker, but there were about 3 plays that I saw (in his first game action with limited practice) where I thought, "There's no way Booker can make that play." That is the exciting stuff.

B.) I think he cares, but he's just a calm and cool customer. With all the #motor concerns Jazz fans have had with Favors, I think they'll be worse with Lyles. He's just a really low-key dude.

C.) He is 19 years old, and really learning the PF position for the first time. He looked like a guy used to guarding wings. . . which is going to be a godsend when teams go small and he has to cover Iguadola or Barnes or Ryan Anderson out on the perimeter. . . but is kind of a bitch when he's inside covering NBA power forwards for the first time.

D.) P3 and Quin Snyder are going to do amazing things with this kid IF he puts in the kind of work that he has in High School and at Kentucky. Get him stronger and more athletic, work on his shooting form and then teach him a spin move, dribble through the legs, step-back jumper and he's going to be killer out there. Loved how effortlessly he got Okafor into the air and then went LeBron on him and drew contact.

E.) I'm excited to see him in Vegas, hopefully with Neto and Pleiss as well. I think that spending time practicing with the team and working with the coaches will be huge for him. He looked like a guy who is ready to contribute right away. I see him getting a lot of playing time this year.

He boxed out. Someone else just grabbed teh rebounds.

Oh that reminded me of an article I read on Roy Hibbert. He wasn't grabbing very many rebounds and people were trashing him, but the team rebounded better when he was on the court than off, and it was because he drew so much attention and he boxed out so well.

well the Jazz said he had the best balance through workouts of any player that they brought in for workouts.

There is a difference between having core strength and general balance and shooting mechanics that put you off balance on your shot. One does not preclude the other.

The balance on the shot isn't the issue, it's the flatness.

One feeds the other. Shots on balance and in rhythm will tend to have better trajectories. Off balance means over compensation that leads to poorer trajectories.

With some of these conversations and excuses I wonder if any of you understand basic shot mechanics.

There was probably one shot, that I remember, where he had poor balance.

On his FT's, every shot hit front rim first. Flat shot.

His best move of the night was the traveling call drive. I'm not sure what constitutes traveling in the NBA these days, but I see that play not called 95% of the time in real games
Agreed.
No way was that travelling
