Tony Jones: "Utah Jazz: History of No. 5 pick is boom or bust. If Jazz select fifth, they’re likely to get either a star or a complete flop."

He then lists all the #5 picks, with ~ 13 stars, ~17 with decent careers (not stars), and ~7 complete flops.

Stars: Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter, Jason Richardson, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Mitch Richmond, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Sidney Moncrief, Purvis Short, Walter Davis, Bobby Jones, Kevin Love

Decent, not stars: Ricky Rubio, Jeff Green, Raymond Felton, Devin Harris, Jason Richardson, Mike Miller, Tony Battie, Juwan Howard, Isaiah Rider, LaPhonso Ellis, Steve Smith, Kendall Gill, J.R. Reid, Kenny Walker, Sidney Green, LaSalle Thompson, Darryl Dawkins

Flops: Shelden Williams, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Jonathan Bender, Jon Koncak, Danny Vranes, James Ray, Wally Walker

(I threw out very old and most recent picks)

writers.....

Writers gonna write bro.

Good point, but it is just a bit annoying reading such drivel. Along with the implication that because some thing special happens historically at #5, it is likely to happen this year, when random chance is a much more likely explanation.
