I wonder if Trump just reignited the whole thing to take credit for the declined NFL ratings. Before this week it was mostly activist on Kap's side calling to boycott NFL, to try and hurt their rating as a their form of protest to support Kap.

Now it's a ton of people on the right calling to protest the NFL by not watching because of players kneeling, standing, or not being apart of the anthem at all.

Wouldn't surprise me if he tries to take credit after the next game with low ratings.

I've been following this fairly closely on social media and it is pretty surprising. People are completely ignorant of the facts. Like accusations that players have no connection to servicemen and women, calling them traitors and this is treason or that if they want's to make a change they'd take action off the field. They must not realize that many players donate time and money to various causes like boys and girls clubs.

Crazy how fast people will abandon their principles.

I welcome you to join me on the side of not being surprised about this kind of thing.

It's pretty disappointing. The reason I use surprising is that I have seen some people I consider to be pretty thoughtful and reasoned in their political takes respond very emotionally on this issue.

I've been shocked by this whole Trump thing. We live in a different country than I thought we did. It feels like so much progress has been wiped out or maybe was never real in the first place.

After Charlottesville I was entering a gas station as a black father was leaving with his kids. He saw me approaching and then quickly gathered them under his wings hurrying them to the safety of their car. My first thought was "huh, so that's what that feels like." Then I wondered if this was the new baseline. Is it just assumed that someone like me may want to hurt black children? Was it my pickup? My beard? Am I really all of the sudden a scary guy? Are these lunatics really winning? In 2017 is it really becoming worse to be black in America? People support this? This is the country people want to live in? WTF?

I wonder how many people are having their perspectives changed in a good way due to the current ethnicity climate. On all sides.

Basically, ad hominem attacks to redirect the conversation elsewhere.

my bet is that the net result for mass culture is a regressive one (i.e. the birth of new set of sloppy reductionisms and a whole generation brought up in precarity). And in many cases where regression doesn't seem to carry the day, there will be deeply felt weariness and wariness of the political process (which is it's own kind of regression).

huh?

There's not much good to see, imv. From what I can tell most of suburban America likes it this way.

An absolute embarrassment and stain on our nation's history, and that's me reeling it in.
