Actually, YOU have to pay for the vacation (or your parents). Not sure exactly what the monthly charge is now, though. When I went, each missionary paid for all his own expenses. Since the cost of living varies so much (i.e. European missions >>>> $ than South American missions, the LDS Church decided to normalize the monthly costs. Each missionary pays the same amount no matter where he/she goes.
