What's new

Ty Corbin is the 9th most tenured coach in the NBA.

How? If the Jazz go into pretty much tank mode next season there will be no expectations....therefore no failure..

And Corbin as a head coach will have missed the playoffs more with the Utah Jazz then all other Utah Jazz coaches combined. That's why.

If he was looking to improve defense he should of player Millsap over Jefferson when he wanted Favors to play. Burks started to play again when Mo Williams got injured. It wasn't a decision he made because he saw something. It took an injury to see that Burks was better than he thought.

I am not saying he didn't improve at all. I am saying that he actually regressed in terms of substitutions. Even at the end of the year he was playing Foye at SG and having him guard Kobe or players that Foye had no chance of guarding. He still never realized that. That is a huge problem. When you put one of your worst defenders on the team at the end of the game to guard one of the best scorers on the league. And do it multiple times and not even realize the mistake.....That is bad

If Corbin did not realize things like this that is getting worse. You cannot be at a stand still in life. You either get worse or better. If you don't improve and everyone else gets better than what happens to you? Its about contrast.

He still did not understand that Mo Williams was hurting the team. Same with Jefferson. He never saw that even at the end of the season.

After Kanter put him 20 and 20 games he went back to playing 10-15 minutes a game. Literally right after. He didn't even jump up his minutes. If anything he dropped his minutes.

There are so many things he did not improve on and actually kept doing the wrong things it was pathetic. That is getting worse. Digging a bigger hole that your standing in. He might of threw some dirt on there to fill the hole like playing Burks more after a injury or Favors at the end of the game. But he dug deeper into the mistakes and continued those more than the ones he corrected. That is getting worse. If it is not what is the definition or examples of a coach getting worse?

You are missing the point. I am not calling Corbin a good coach. All I said is that he has improved and he has. This entier post is all about him not improving as fast as you want. Well guess what? Join the club. However that does not mean he has not improved at all. Let alone get worse as you initially claimed.

Not initially. I still hold to that. He did get worse.

But please answer the question. If a coach continues to make mistakes and never corrects the majority of them is that not getting worse? We might be arguing over labels but if that is not getting worse what is the definition of a coach getting worse? What would Corbin have to do?

Meh. I dont think the team or fans would have any expectations for playoffs next year.

Whether they do or not, those be the facts. Let me put this another way. Technically Corbin has been the head coach at the end of 3 seasons. If the Jazz miss the playoffs next season then out of 4 years he will have made the playoffs once. That is no good for a franchise that is usually playing come late April.

I would call that insanity.

If a coach is making the same mistakes and not correcting them no that is not gatting worse. that is staying the same. Getting worse would him making those same mistakes and new ones. He tried new things thru the season and improved, still bad, in some areas. Ty does learn, just very, very slowly.

it's all about winning titles

can he get you one? no

it's a competition.. can he be the best? no

there always will be guys like pop who will outcoach corbin

greg just picked the wrong son

Ok we are just arguing over labels. But we agree he has continued the majority of his flaws? Has not corrected very many things?

Corbin's most successful adjustments have largely been made for him in the last two years (injury). He tried starting Favors to begin the 2011 season and it was a failure (Al? Favors played great when Al sat the third game and played next to Millsap). He's shown a willingness to tinker with lineups but usually only tinker and the only player he's been completely unwilling (or unable) to adjust role or minutes for happens to probably be the biggest impediment to good basketball on the team (Al, and the organization owns a huge part of the blame here).

We have a winner.
