U of U Pedophile Controversy

Obviously, stupidity is not his biggest problem, but you can't lay off the kiddie porn for 5 hours?

Pathetic on so many levels.

Glad whoever saw it told the authorities. Must have been kind of awkward. "Yeah, that ugly dude in black is watching naked kids"

Well obviously, but I just don't understand how these people can watch it in public when they know that it's illegal. Boggles my mind...

It's pretty sad. Glad he did though, led to him getting caught. It will probably lead to others to because according to the article it sounded like he was involved in a kiddie porn trading circle.

It's just plain horrible. The sad fact is, if he'd have just left it alone on the flight, he might never have been found out. Any idea how long this has been going on?

Probably most of his adult life. I don't think you wake up one day and are suddenly turned on by the thought of kids.

ok, it's nothing to laugh at, but this line in the article struck me funny:

47-year-old Grant Smith of Cottonwood Heights, Utah was arraigned in East Boston District Court. Bail was set at $75,000...

Smith has been charged with possession of child pornography. He was also ordered to stay off the Internet, unless it’s for business purposes....

...Prosecutors say his laptop was purchased with grant money.

I guess this is a good example of heightened awareness resulting from all the publicity originating with the Penn State situation.

Wow... I got neg repped for starting this thread. The reason? So the the repper could clear rep room and neg rep Trout.

Poor idiot (Baby Peterz) doesn't even know that Trout doesn't post here any longer.

My goodness, what's with all the pedophilia/child porn stuff going on lately? This is getting a little ridiculous.

Not child porn, but this does remind me of a little incident at Marquette. I had a job working at the university library, and at one point the staff caught some dude watching porn in one of the library's conference rooms. The thing that sticks in my mind was my boss telling us that there wasn't actually a rule before that incident occurred that forbid this sort of thing... I guess it never crossed anyone's mind that anyone would be so brazen/stupid about it. We were told that we could ask someone to stop if it was making other patrons uncomfortable until they could officially institute a rule.

In any case, if you can't even wait until you're in the privacy of your own home to look at porn, chances are you've got a problem.

I took a class with that professor! I believe it was about polymers. He seemed like an intelligent guy. But I suppose not intelligent enough to avoid doing something very very illegal in public.

Really makes you wonder just how pervasive this is. Is there a tenured perv on every campus? Is this what the intelligentsia turn to when they get bored telling students how to think?

Ok here's what needs to happen. The NCAA needs to create a rule that any university that covers up **** like this, that is shown to have known about it and not IMMEDIATELY brought it to light, is banned from all collegiate athletics for 5 years. This would encourage a whistle-blower atmosphere that wouldn't let **** like this hide in the dark. How differently would Joe Pa have acted if he knew that covering it up could cost his program 5 years of college ball?
