Uninteded consequence of DWill trade?

So this is how Bucher sees is happening?

KOC: Hey big time FA. We really want you in Utah. Here is a max contract (assuming obviously they had cap room)
FA: What about DWill? You just upped and traded him without asking him where he wanted to go?!
KOC: uh.. what? I didn't know you were supposed to ask your players where they would like to be traded to... but
FA: WTF! Im not signing there!
KOC: We traded him, because he never was committed to re-signing/exercising his option to stay and next year might be locked out. I'm sure you could see the position we were in.
FA: YOU DIDN'T ASK HIM WHERE HE WANTED TO BE TRADED TO? EFF YOU GUYS! I am signing with Milwaukee.

So if I understand you right you are saying this:

"If you build it, (t)he(y) will come."
 
I think the unintended consequence is that possibly other teams will realize it's a bad idea to cater to a whiny bitch player who will most likely leave anyway.
 
Bucher's an idiot. So by this logic FAs are going to be attracted to Denver, because when they want out, they will simply request a trade to the team they want to play for, and Denver will do it.
 
So by Bucher's rationale, Utah should have just sat on their thumbs hoping that Deron would re-up with them when he obviously wasn't going to? I guess letting Deron fufill his contract and getting nothing in return while he walks makes Utah more trustworthy for other big time free agents?

Bucher actually gets paid for opinions such as this? Amazing.
 
If the Jazz had held onto Deron until Deron walked, Bucher woulda probably said the Jazz were stupid for not having seen this sooner and traded him for value instead of letting him walk for nothing - No FA would want to play for such a stupid organization?

To repeat, Bucher is a Jazz-hating moron.
 
I could just be seeing this through Jazz-colored glasses (entirely possible), but I actually like the message that the Deron trade sends to future players of the Jazz.

If guys get drafted by Utah and feel like they will eventually like to test the Free Agent waters, there's some pretty clear precedent set that Utah is not just going to twist in the wind while a franchise cornerstone tries to wait them out. To me it seems to send the signal that Utah is just looking for a little bit of loyalty, and if you're not willing to meet them halfway on that, they understand that it's a business and they will accomodate you're desire to play elsewhere.

I also don't see why Bucher thinks big time free agents won't trust Utah because of how they handled the D-Will scenario. D-Will wasn't some big time FA that Utah somehow duped into signing a contract only to turn around and deal him to NJ. He was drafted property that had pretty much made it clear that he had no intention of staying in Utah. How Bucher can somehow twist that scenario into future FA's not "trusting" Utah is a pretty lame reach.
 
the solution seems to be that the Jazz just should not sign a contract that includes a final year player option - - team option or nothing!
