US Gives Immunity To Staffer Who Set Up Clinton Email Server

Has raising minimum wage in Seattle resulted in higher unemployment?
It’s being phased in over time: three years (for large employers) to seven years (for small employers). So way too early to tell in hard numbers for the Seattle area.

However, in general, raising the minimum wage can and usually does have some minimal effect on job loss, especially among teens and low-skilled workers. Where you ultimately stand on the issue depends on your political philosophy, how you weigh a small drop in employment against the increased earnings and purchasing power for the still employed and, more broadly, how the minimum wage affects income inequality and poverty.

I'm not familiar with that situation. I assume you have some stats you want to share or you wouldn't have brought up such a specific case. Make sure you include information on cost of living so that we can determine whether raising the minimum wage actually put low wage earners in a better situation.

Do you think that the employers are simply going to absorb this higher cost, or will they raise the prices of their products in order to pass the increased labor costs on to their customers? Do you think rents are going to stay at the same level, or do you think that they will increase in response to the fact that their tenants now have more disposable income? If the cost of living goes up in response to an increase in the minimum wage what has actually been accomplished?

I think something far more relevant to look at his how does the increased wages affect benefits to programs like food stamps, HEAT and Medicaid. Does the increase wages get offset by loss of needs based income?

If so wouldn't that be a good thing according to conservatives as those people are now off such programs? Despite them not having really advanced due to the offset.

I think in very, very simplified terms, it's a short term fix that makes voters happy. For a little bit they're making more, then inflation sets in, price of goods increase, rent increases, and we're back at square one.

I would rather see more promotion of trade schools. There's always a need (even demand) for diesel mechanics, welders, machinists, plumbers, electricians, etc. None of that stuff is that hard, and it's not as glamorous as an art history major, but at least it's a good job.

This whole thing seems really dodgy to me.... dunno why but Hilary Clinton just doesn't give me the feeling of trustworthiness.

You and many many others apparently. It was so good watching her confronted with the stats on her perceived untrustworthyness in the Florida debate.

Wow really? I didn't see that debate... must youtube it. I thought I was alone in thinking that... LOL ... she just seems to try to 'say the right thing' too much for my liking. Doesn't come across as 100% genuine.

It was definitely the best debate so far. Very entertaining and plenty of big moments imo.
