Utah Jazz Media Day (live stream)

Right now it would appear that the Jazz FO is having some reservations about WK.

OK, but do you honestly think the way the Jazz feel about Kessler has anything to do with who he played against in college or when he was drafted or who was drafted next to? Or are you just using this as a way to insert your Homey knowledge?

I very much love you as a poster, but I don't know when to take you seriously sometimes.

I agree with the assessment of Kessler. He was drafted with the 22nd pick and then traded twice before ending up with the Jazz his rookie year. David Roddy was drafted next to him and he's already hit the waiver wire. Kessler couldn't beat out Armando Bacot in college so I can see the front office viewing him with the same skills as Tony Bradley and not 30 mill per year.
dude, it was Flc who was supposed to give a super-stoned take, not you.

I would love to train an AI chatbot on homey's posts. You could have weird/funny trivia diarrhea whenever you wanted.

I seriously don't know how to take the Jazz stance on WK's extension. I thought he was a sure fire piece for the future and then Tony Jones breaks the news. Is this just a business move like Warriors and Kuminga,, a step toward trading WK or something else?

My impression is that because he was a later first round pick, it's mostly due to the delta between his cap-hold and extension number.

With Kessler, there may be some debate about what a rim-protecting, rim-running center is worth. The Jazz moved on from Gobert in large part because Ainge didn't think that type of player should be maxed or near-maxed. Jarrett Allen might be one comparable, and his second contract has been at $20M/year for 5 years. He now has an extension at an average of $30M/year that will kick in a year from now. Myles Turner is at $25M/year as a big that can space the floor as well as defend the rim.

The new apron rules really punish teams for overpaying their 4th and 5th best players.
Yes, Jarrett Allen might be comparable, but he's an efficient shooter from close range. I’m one of those here who think Kessler is just too one-dimensional to be on a modern championship team. Obviously, if he greatly develops his shooting, it’s a different story, but I don’t think it’ll ever be one of his strengths. When we get good enough to be a serious contender, I want a center who can shoot 3-pointers and free throws, defend the perimeter, and be a decent rim protector.

Yo, I just saw One Battle After Another featuring Leo as a washed up stoner dad. Incredible film. It’ll win the Oscar, but it’s an all time great American film. Takes equal shots at extreme liberals and conservatives. Sean Penn is phenomenal.

See it in IMAX if you can.

My hunch is that this is where the Jazz are at. They want their highest paid players to be versatile 2-way wings.

I mean, it's fine to think Kessler won't be able to be a good playoff performer when the Jazz are playoff ready in 4-5 years. He's so limited on offense and kind of one dimensional on defense that future teams may be able to game plan around that to exploit him... But then you can just trade him instead.

There's a decent chance he takes the QO and the Jazz lose him for nothing. Kessler has a fairly large QO (around $9m) as long as he starts 41 games this year.

Im seeing it on VistaVision

IMAX is cool, but every IMAX theater I've been to has terrible seats. I just cant go back to old-school theater seating, especially for 3 hour movies.

Ace is definitely the most charismatic player the Jazz have had since Donovan, but they are charismatic in completely different ways.

Don was polished like a politician (but like one that you dont hate). Always said the right thing and said it the right way.

Ace is like a 12 year old who still believes the world is a good place.

Jakob Poetl got $27m per despite having a lot more injury risk and a lot less upside due to being much older. He's going to get $30m.
Locke had a pod where I think he revealed where things ended up on accident... I think the Jazz would do 20 per year. I think Walker is asking 30 per year. There is a natural middle ground here that we should accept imo. I think the Jazz broke things off for whatever reason someone wants to believe and that is why Walker was frustrated.

I would guess there is a real chance Walker is not on the team to start next season. The Jazz have not done a great job managing this asset imo. Their line of "flexibility" is just disguised "indecisiveness".

If true, then hopefully the Jazz reengage before the deadline and get something done. Even if we have to go up to 30 with incentives I'm ok, but hopefully in that scenario you get a team option and descending salary.

I do think AA wants to sign Kessler. He just doesn’t want to give him too much. Maybe they’ll end up going around 25 per year, as you said.
