Utah Jazz Summer League Topic

Lyles really needs to improve his handle if he wants to handle the ball on the perimeter more.

Lyles looks decent with the rebound-and-go. His playmaking seems a bit out of control, but part of that is who he's playing with.

Well, if we are looking for that diamond who can shoot the 3, we ain't finding him in summer league -- at least not wearing a Jazz uni.

So are we losing big? Was important to win. Now it's almost certain we ain't getting home court. How come Utah always has such ****ty SL teams? Even when we had roster spots to fill, Jazz could never get decent players.

Other than Lyles, there are glimpses of hope for Olivier Hanlan, Joel Bolomboy and maybe Tyrone Wallace, but most of these guys don't look like NBA players right now.

Lyles looks a smidge more toned and a bit more confident. He pulls the ball off the rim well and can push the ball with his dribble. He telegraphs his passes though and makes mostly basic plays. It looks like his base is a bit stronger and he's willing to try a few moves driving baseline or mix it up a bit in the paint. His shot was coming off long on most of his attempts, same with his free-throws.

He needs a spin move to finish after he beats the initial man off the dribble. He always goes straight into that help defender and its usually a non call / miss at the rim.

Anderson and Simmons for the Spurs made our guys look like they belong in the D league.

Lyles hit some 3's and made a few plays but Anderson ate his lunch several times. Lyles needs to come back and play better.

Pleiss hit a 3 and long jumper. He seems to have sped up his shooting stroke. He still gets bumped out of rebounding position. He showed better defensive awareness but still cannot get there to wall off the basket. He has several more games but I see some small improvements--not enough to make him worth keeping. I cannot decide what about his rolls to the hoops that are so ineffective but they have no gravity.

Bolomboy looks like a raw athlete with the beginning of several NBA skills. As expected he isn't going to be ready to do anything this year. But I like him as a developmental prospect.

Hanlan made several good moves to get into the paint to score or pass. He was easily our best guard in the game.

Paige doesn't look like an NBA player. Maybe he can show us something but I just don't see it.

Wallace looked okay to me. His size and quickness looked okay on D. He scored a few times around the hoop but he needs to get stronger and find a jump shot.

Oh and no one guards Craft on the pick and roll. They know he isn't going to shoot and make the shot.

Bottom line we need to look for another FA big man for some depth.

Well my 4 minute observation: Bolomboy doesnt look that good.

Yeah, he looks raw but he has the athleticism, runs the floor well, very active, reminds me physically of a young Mailman. He looked nervous to me. I'm anxious to see what he can do as the summer league progresses.
