--Salt Lake City. Today the Utah Jazz announced the team will honor longtime head coach Jerry Sloan in a ceremony during half time of the Jazz game against the Golden State Warriors on Friday, January 31, 2014.

Team President Randy Rigby appearing on the Spence & Monson show on 1280 The Zone, said that the Jazz have wanted to honor Jerry since his abrupt retirement in 2011. Rigby said that the Miller family had worked closely with Jerry, to chose an appropriate time and opponent for the ceremony. Rigby suggested that Jerry wanted to wait to until he was certain he would not be a head coach again before allowing the Jazz to honor him.

Rigby announced that he had personally invited many of the key figures in Jazz history, including Karl Malone, John Stockton, Frank and Scott Layden and others.

Tickets for the event are now available.

My only question is, will Ty get to come or will he need to buy a ticket?

Awesome.

I hated him sometimes. Now I miss him. Strange.

The best thing about Jerry that made him a great coach is he ruled with an iron fist like no other. I think thats half the battle at least and he was great at it.

Congrats Jer. Luv ya bro

Jerry's strongest asset was always that he was absolutely in charge. I suspect that strength is mostly coincidental rather than something personal about Jerry. He happened to get into the right situation with the right stars and the right organization. Popps is the only equivalent in terms of unchallengability in the modern era.

oooooo yea bros. sloan is legend. jazz made mistake choosin deron over him. good thing they realized it and traded him away for another fellow legend.
