Utah Jazz vs OKC

So, I am bored to tears, and feeling optimistic today. I want to compare raw talent between the two teams.

Westbrook - player on Jazz that has similar talent level = Burks. Westbrook shot 40% fg, 27% 3pt, 82% ft, and 5 ft a game his rookie year in 32 mins. Burks shot 43%, 33%, 73% and 2 ft in 16 mins. Burks has potential to be a Westbrook level player.

Harden and Hayward are identical players after their second years. It is eerie. They both averaged 12 pts, something like 43% shooting, 35% 3, 84% ft. Hayward was slightly higher with blocks and steals. As stupid as this sounds, if Hayward keeps improving, we might already have Harden on the team, and I doubt Hayward gets a max deal. Hayward may end up being the steal of the century for Utah.

Ibaka - 18 mins, 54% fg, 63% ft, 5 rebs, 1 blk, 6 pts. This is tough. We have a comparable player in Favors, but Favors is much better. If took game out of it, and just went off of talent and ceiling, I would put our "version" as Kanter. They are completely different players, but they both can be very good defensively (in different ways), and solid offensively. Here are Kanter's rookie numbers: 13 mins, 50% fg, 67% ft, 4 rebs, 0.3 blks, 5 pts. Other than blocks, they are very similar. BUT, what Kanter lacks in blocking ability, he can make up for one on one, in the post defense. I think he could be dominate if he chooses to be so.

That leaves Durant, who is a superstar. In order for us to become OKC, we need Favors to take that role. He definitely has the talent to do so. This is where Corbin should be fired, and fired immediately. Durant's first three years he played 34, 39 and 39 minutes a game. Favors? 20, 20, 20. That is pathetic. You only play your best player 42% of the time? Completely inexcusable. *cue Corbin's mom, Cyrone*

That being said, while the players are different styles, and the system would have to be different, we definitely have the potential to be the next OKC. I can see why Hollinger said so in his article. It really is too bad we didn't get the 8th pick in the draft. That would have been amazing.

Also, Burks and Favors need to be playing 25 mins a night, if not over 30. Anything less is completely inexcusable.

Also, OKC got bounced the first time they made the playoffs as an 8th seed. The similarities continue....ooooooohhhhhhh.

Jazz still have a long way to go before they are OKC. The main issue is that there are three players (KD, Westbrook and Harden) on OKC that are better than any player on the Jazz have. Now a few years down the line, the Jazz big four might be comparable but the real problem is the Jazz have no Kevin Durrant on their team. KD is a once in a lifetime kind of player.

You did not mention Sefolosha, who has been great in this series....
Perkins and Collision are capable big men also.

You are comparing stats of players that don't play alike or even play the same positions.
Burks needs to match up with Sef and Harden.
Gord needs to match with Durant and Sef
Harris matches with Westbrook and Harden
etc.

When Durant came to OKC it was him and a bunch of scrubs. He was the only talent on the team. Who on that team was going to take minutes from Durant? Corbin tried to give Favors more minutes. People forget that Favors was made a starter to start the year, but he wasn't ready for that kind of roll, also he did see more time at the end of the year.

One last thing... What does 20,20,20 mean? You know he's only played 2 years right?

Jazz need to land a pure go to scorer. I would love if the Jazz traded Jeffersuck, GSW pick to the Bobcats for their 2013 draft pick unprotected and we somehow end up with Shabazz

There are very few KD's in the world. The Jazz have never had anyone like him yet and I doubt anyone on the roster has a prayer at his ability. The joke about people saying build like OKC did is that it means you have to find a KD. That is very rare.

The only way to get an unprotected pick these days is to trade a superstar player. A team like the Bobcats aren't going to give us a possible #1 pick for Al and the GS pick. Jordan would be the laughing stock of the NBA.

Repped....

It's not like the NBA is a candy store with plenty to choose from. KD's don't grow on trees

And yet Westbrook treats KD like the step child. That's what bugs me about that team. Westbrook is awesome but he needs to remember who he plays with.

I think you all are overrating Durant a bit, and underrating the rest of them a bit....

They have 5 excellent young players that could be dominant for 5 to 10 years.

No and yes. Durant is that special but this is a team game and it takes more than that one superstar.

I don't think we are overrating KD. The guy has led the league in scoring 3 years in a row. He is arguable a top 3 player in the world. I think most knowledgable fans know that basketball is a team sport and OKC has an excellent team. I mentioned how they have two other players that are better than anyone on the Jazz. Throw in Perkins and Ibaka and there other good role players and you have a championship team. One of the main reason why I wanted the Jazz to miss the playoffs is because I still think the Jazz need to get more talent to compete against teams like OKC.
