Utah Jazz vs. San Antonio Spurs 7/7/2015 @7pm Mountain Time *Official SL Game Thread*

Lol. It's almost like you have to bend over backwards to push the Jazz trio out of your top five, and even then you cannot push them very far. I understand your desire to temper your expectations and remain "realistic," but your argument makes it all the more obvious what an exciting era of Jazz basketball we are on the threshold of.
I agree, although I still believe that the three of them aren't top 5 YET, when I started putting the names out there I did realize that there's not that many better at each position. But I don't think a lot of people have seen DeAndre Jordan....I do think he's losing a ton leaving cp

Because the rest of the roster was the statistically worst pg and a bunch of d-league players. Although I am not quite sure we have top 5 at all of those positions it is debatable and close to top 5. Enough that its not crazy to argue it. Where would you rank them? out of the top 10 at their positions? or are you ranking them top 6 or 7 and just claiming its homer to have your rankings slightly different by 1 or 2 spots?

I think the SG/SF position is very interchangeable in today's NBA, especially with the Jazz, as Hayward plays both positions. That being said, rankings:

Wings I'd rather have over Hayward
1) Lebron
2) Durant
3) Harden
4) Thompson
5) Leonard
6) Melo
7) Wiggins
8) Paul George
9) Hayward / Rudy Gay / Wade

All of the players listed above hayward offer some type of elite skillset. I want my #1 option on my team to have that.

I love Favors, but think that the Jazz would be benefit from having a PF that can stretch the floor alongside Gobert. PFs I'd rather have than Favors:
1) AD
2) Love
3) Aldridge
4) Bosh
5) Griffin
6) Ibaka / Randolph / Millsap
7) Draymond / Favors / Duncan / Dirk

As far as the Center position goes, we are very lucky to have Gobert. I place him at #6
1) Gasol
2) Howard
3) Cousins
4) Jordan
5) Vucevic
6) Gobert
7) Hortford / Drummond / Noah

Take any combination of a PF and Wing above Hayward and Favors and place them with Gobert, and we're a lock for the playoffs next year. (Getting ready for the hate from JF for stating my opinion in 3.. 2.. 1..)

If we have a top 5 SF, a top 5 PF, and a top 5 C then why the hell didn't we come close to sniffing the playoffs last year? Love my jazz, but c'mon man, take off the homer goggles... we're still a while away from competing.
Check the end of season trends and then get back to us. It's interesting how many people are so fearful of being let down that they won't allow their hopes to get up no matter what.

So you have Hayward top 10 of SG/SF which is pretty much like a top 5 in one of those if you cut them in half. You have Gobert 6 which is pretty damn close to top 5 in your book.

and you hate Favors and grossly underestimate him.

I'm just as excited about the Jazz as everyone else is and i see their potential, but I think we're 3-4 years away whereas other people think we're 1-2

Did you not see our record after we started Gobert and Exum? Considering our bench was terrible and we had the worst PG play in the NBA and still finished at a 50+ win pace...

Not hate, but definitely a difference of opinion. Are you saying you would trade each of the Jazzmen straight up for any of the names above them on your lists?

So you don't think that any of those PFs next to gobert would provide a better combination than what we have now?

I'd trade Favors and Hayward for the players listed above them in a heartbeat. Though if we didn't have Gobert, then I wouldn't trade for millsap (I think he's a much better fit next to gobert than favors is)

Favors is 23! The only PF that is better to build around in the NBA right now is AD.
Gobert is the best Defender in the league at any position.
Together they will hands down be the best front court in the league for years to come.
I can't wait to see them go at Duncan and LMA this season.

You guys are underestimating the corner we turned last year. To put things in perspective, the Deron led team that went to the WCF won a whopping 3 more road games than the team last year, and that's with an abysmal first half of the season. The ability to win on the road is the first step towards being a legitimate contender, and Utah is well on their way. Anyone underestimating this team is going to be in for a big surprise.
