Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

True MDAV. If they are shopping Gordon because they might not want to pay him, then we could go after him now and clear off another contract they are trying to dump.

If we took contracts, Orlando would probably sell low. Having the ability to match would be huge.

Well, only if you really think he's worth 27M/yr. Also, it's not like they're giving him away. It will cost real assets.

This tells me don't trade for him and just sign him in FA.
Jazz will be hard pressed to get value for their expirings AND clear enough cap space to sign him up to an offer sheet that the Magic won’t match. If the Jazz can work out a deal that involves taking on Fournier’s contract and doesn’t get stupid with draft picks. . . I’d go for it.

Mitchell, Fournier, Jingles, Gordon and Gobert would be a great core to start with and then tweak the pieces. Mitchell, Gordon and Gobert on the same team would lead to some exciting above the rim play.

I don’t think they’ll sell that low. Will likely cost Hood plus pick(s).

Gordon is going to get between $22 and $27. Orlando knows adding that to Fournier and Biyombo cripples their next 3 years financially. That's $60 million to 3 guys who arent making them win at all right now.

If we took Biyombo, Fournier and Gordon, Orlando would get their fresh start. That's a whole lot of contracts though. Those 3 added to our nucleus makes us a contender soon, but can we afford that?

Jazz can easily clear enough if they move Hood for no money in return, sign Exum to a deal quickly and move of one of Thabo/Jerebko. Going after RFA is better because then you aren't giving up assets, taking back money, and you aren't obligated to sign him to a number that you're uncomfortable with.

hgb - I think you are on to something. I would go with:

Hood, Favors, JoeJ, Burks, Thabo and our 2nd
for
Fournier, Gordon, Biyombo and Afflalo
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ybe8mpzl

Why for Orlando - they want a reset. Dumping Biyombo is worth a high 1st. Fournier is a massive deal. They don't want to pay both of them and Gordon. They could easily flip Hood for a first if they want. So essentially, we are sending them the value of 2 1sts and shed so much money.

Why for us: 5 expendable guys for 3 guys who would contribute. Afflalo is just an expiring. Fournier and Gordon could be key. We added nonguaranteed contracts like Jerekbo and Udoh for a circumstance like this. We go into the luxury for 2018/19 then Rubio expires then Biyombo expires.

2018 salaries:
Gobert $23
Rubio $14.5
Ingles $13
Mitchell $3.1
Bradley $1.7
O'Neale $1.4
Exum $10 (let's just say it's what he gets)
Fournier $17
Biyombo $17
Gordon $25
Our 1st $2.5
TOTAL - $137 - yeah, we probably don't do that.

Hood+Rubio+Favors+Johnson for Biyombo, Fournier and Gordon works salary-wise, but that doesn't sound like something I would do if I were the Magic...
Looking at what's left of their team, that's not a whole lotta fun. Vucevic is good, Ross is okay, I guess, there's Payton and Isaac, but...
I’d take Fournier, but not Biyambo. I actually really like the guy, but that contract is an albatross. Only way I’m taking that on is there’s no draft picks going to them. Even then, I’m thinking long and hard about keeping Hood and Rubio out of the deal and figuring out what to do with them later.
