Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

After catching my breath, this trade isn't that bad for Cleveland. If IT was a cancer (which the record kind of showed after he came back from injury), there is addiction by subtraction there. Clarkson is young and athletic which Cleveland desperately needs.

This looks awesome for the Lakers, but then again, how many times in the last decade has there been talk about how the Lakers are going to add all these stars? If they strike out again and Clarkson does well in Cleveland, they might get the raw deal here. And just imagine if they overpay the heck out of IT who can't guard 2018 Ostertag.

IT as an expiring has value... I think George Hill was a better value for Cleveland (better defender and shooter) Could have had him for Shump and expirings and used your pick elsewhere. Nance is fine but he won't change anything for them. They effed up here pretty bad...

And that is without considering they just rolled the damn red carpet out for Lebron to go to LA... maybe Lebron knows where the bodies are buried and forced Gilbert's hand. This has potential to look so much worse for the Cavs in 6 months... but Jordan Clarkson doe.

The irony is that if he never ran the "back up the bricks truck" nonsense, Ainge may never have looked to move him in the first place.
Don't believe that. Ainge knew he was damaged goods. And IT was already 30 and didn't fit the development timeline of the roster. I commented on the trade that only a fool would trade for a PG with a potential career threatening and most likely a career altering injury. Cavs had everything riding on the BKN pick, which I'm sure they thought was a lock to be top-3. If it turns out to be top-7, the gamble may have been worth it. If not, they could have received so much more from any number of teams. And not getting the pieces to help them now likely will cost them Lebron this summer.

If not the Lakers, the Clippers are certainly paving the way to have a max slot available for him.

The Cavs are overloaded with vets without athleticism. They have almost zero players who can create their own shot. They just traded two old vets for two super athletic guys. And Clarkson is a guy who can create his own shot. I don't think they should have included the 1st, but maybe that's what it took. Cleveland is better after this trade, but I'm not sure by how much.

Youre right but he definetly escalated things.

As soon as Ainge heard that MAX contract talk he was looking for ways to shio him out. If it was Kyrie he would have got Rubio or whoever but IT was gone.

Not to mention they moved Frye in this deal who is a great locker room dude... just baaad.

I imagine it was tough on that call to act like they wouldn't send Clarkson and Nance without the pick... don't play poker with Magic.

Sam Amick @sam_amick
now

Look forward to hearing LeBron's thoughts on the trade, but I'm getting positive reactions from those close to him so far. Cavs get younger. Take on future money, which sends message of commitment. Lakers component aside, being framed as a thumbs-up.
