Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I just hate "Well we could've done this". How do you know? You don't. Obviously if there's a great trade on the table, the FO is going to take it and if there's not, then don't take it? Maybe trades proposed involving Favors and/or Hood require taking on money for later years? Maybe nobody wanted to give up a 1st for Niko (which seems to be proven by the fact that Asik had to get tagged onto the deal). Saying the Jazz "do nothing" when you're not in there and don't know what deals are available is ridiculous. Criticizing deals that are actually made has relevance. Criticizing rumored or fake deals means nothing.
I know the Jazz could've done something, which I think they have to do. Either go all in on tanking, or make a move to get better. Standing pat and being idle with the status quo and is how you ensure mediocrity and a 218-241 record as the Jazz GM.

In this scenario, maybe. I agree completely with not giving up the 1st round pick. I think there were other ways to get Mirotic and get Chicago their first round pick using 3 team trades. But anyhow, it's more just a general comments. Jazz have a track record of this.
yeah, why didn't DL force another team to give up their 1st rounder while making sure the best player in the trade ended up on his team? All good GMs can do that, right??

No one is arguing to actually give up the draft pick. People are arguing to actually making a trade with Favors and Hood.
Please make a legitimate trade proposal for Favors? Other than Cleveland, the deals out there would involve taking back a bad contract, like Chicago just did, or combining his expiring with another asset (Hood or our 1st) to get a player. It's unlikely Favs or JJ will get dealt. Stronger possibility Hood goes to a contender for a late 1st.
And I won't criticize DL for doing that. A bad contract is worse than no deal at all.

I hope it hasn't fallen because we had to match Pels' offer and Bulls are thinking accepting it.

I do wonder why the trade has fallen apart
Possible Reason:

Mirotic has to accept the trade for his team option to remain intact for next year. If he waives the trade, then Chicago has to accept his team option for next year, making him a 2 year contract. New Orleans might not want him at two years without the flexibility of waiving him because if they are able to re-sign Cousins, that would be a huge tax burden to keep Mirotic.
