Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

There is this thing called history. Look at it.
Generally true. And a couple of big names are still on the market - or at least that's what some GM's are hoping. Vultures are circling over Cleveland, there's discord in Milwaukee and Charlotte. I expect others are trying to pick up players for pennies on the dollar. And Homey, I mean Dennis, don't play that game. I suspect he's made his offers and is waiting for a call back.

The more I look at it, the more I like Porter. Could we get him in a salary dump/save them from the luxury move? Do they like Oubre that much?

Favors, JoeJ, a lottery protected pick and our 2018 2nd for Porter, Frazier (expiring) and Mac (expiring nonguaranteed). http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ydgthukq

Washington gets under the luxury limit with this deal. And even though he is a solid player, $25+ for Porter seems like a ton.
We get Porter for expirings and a protected 1st.

I don't see Washington trading Otto Porter just to avoid the tax. They would still be over the cap after the trade. With no money to replace him. If they dump cap they'll be looking to move Gortat/Mahinmi.

I guess this is the more active trade thread, so I'll repost this. They're dealing with Favors tomorrow.

Utah out: Hood, 2019 2nd rounder

Utah in: Celtics 2018 1st rounder (top 22 protected), Top 20 protected for the next 6 years, then becomes 2 second rounders if it doesn't convey

...

Utah out: Joe Johnson, 2018 lotto protected 1st, protected 1-10 in 2019, protected 1-5 in 2020, protected 1-4 in 2021, becoming 2021 and 2022 2nd round picks if it doesn't convey

Utah in: Nikola Mirotic, and Chicago picks up his team option for 13mil next year

I don't think it's realistic to get both Mirotic and Fournier without sending AT LEAST one of the Jazz's actual 1st rounders. I vote Fournier. His contract is legit, he's a consistent threat as a shooter and passer, it would enable the Jazz to move Mitchell to the "1", he's friends with Rudy and spends time in Utah for fun. Don't think he'll save the season but will be a solid third, often second, or sometimes first option. But I'm not taking on Biyombo to do that.

If you can get both without sending a proper Jazz 1st rounder (and not taking on crushing dead salary) I think you have to.

I don't think Kawhi is realistic, I don't think Washington will move Porter right now.

On the topic of realistic; I wanna be in play for 2019.

Damn, that's really the best they could come up with for Hood?

Why would the Jazz do that Hood trade? It's basically giving up Hood and a 2019 2nd round pick for free. It's doubtful the Celtics pick would ever convey with a top 20 protection on it. So we'd basically be getting 2nd rounders in like 2026/2027. Who the heck wants that garbage?

Also, f*** Danny Ainge. I'm not giving him s***.

Celtics have the third best record in the league. It would most likely convey in 2018

Given the history there I think we’d pass with no problem.

I don't really like either of those trades for the Jazz. For such a heavily protected pick, there's way more value in Hood staying. But if they gave us their Memphis pick, I'd do it.

Hood is worth more than that.

As much as I like Hood, or maybe it's more I'm having a hard time letting go of the first impression I had of him, I'm ok with this deal. You get a late first rounder, which he somewhat was himself, for a guy who became expendable because of an un-drafted guy who played his way into the league after 2 yrs in Europe.
