Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I probably wouldn't either. I was just saying why it isn't a really easy choice. Favs is more skilled offensively, but his style of game is out of fashion as a 4. For the Jazz he can't really play in his most effective position because Rudy is in his way. That's all I'm saying. Udoh is definitely a better defender at the 5 position, and his game mirrors what Rudy brings in a lot of ways. 48 minutes of that might be really nice to have.

I dont think you can find a coach in the NBA would play Udoh in front of Favs at the 5

I don't have a problem with getting Mario. He played well last game 20 pts. 5 rebounds. If the Jazz trade Hood, they will need a replacement. I think Mario got swallowed up with a big ego being a star in Europe and then coming to NBA with high expectations. The fans turned on him and he didn't play well.

I like Thabo but he may not be the same player after his injury. Yes there is a risk but it isn't like Thabo is a star or anything. I think some Jazz fans are too attached to him to see that he is replaceable. Besides O'neil has played well, so he can get more minutes if we miss out on Thabo being released. If Mario sucks, then the damage is minimal. If he goes somewhere else and plays well then we might be kicking ourselves.

Looking at his numbers as a starter... Mario very well may get more than 5.2M per year... if so any team acquiring him can't go over that amount because his option was declined. He is a great offseason target imo... let him get more run there and decide.

Thought this video might be relevant. Much different approach by Rodney's parents in a tough situation than what we saw from the Burke family.

Rodney is a great kid, and that video of his dad made me respect him and his family even more. I wish nothing but the best for him whatever happens, but the Jazz have got to do what’s best going forward. It’s unfortunate that guys get caught in the middle of this craziness but such is the NBA and pro sports.

He had lost a step defensively but his wingspan, IQ, and desire were there. He was hitting shots and showing a little bit off the dribble here and there.

I’m not convinced he is coming back but on draft night we could offer him and Jonas for Mirotic and save the pelicans or another team some money and pick up assets in the process. That trade chip has more value than Mario right now and as I outlined we may not want to pick up Mario because of the contract limitation.
What is this Jazz nation obsession with getting Mirotic? He sucked against the Jazz and hasn't really played well the last few weeks.

And again, if the Jazz wanted to pay Fournier, they would just keep Hood, who is the better and higher potential cap of the 2 players.

Or you'd trade Hood for a pick and get Fournier for cap relief and be better off.

I think the durability and consistency issues are a bigger concern than his level of play. He may also get more than Evan and likely commands a 4 year deal where Evan's would have 3 years left. Would you rather have Evan for 3/51 or Hood for 4/60?

One game sample size...

He is a good fit and would come at a fair price point.

I depends on what they need. When favs was playing 5 it was open season on the rim. The Jazz were one of the worst defensive teams in the league over that stretch. Favs offensively can be good, but not great. When considering contract I'd probably rather have Udoh as a backup 5 on his tiny deal for another year, and then find a better fit at 4. As strictly a backup 5 I'm not convinced that Udoh makes you win less than Favors. Udoh has some crazy on/off numbers and positively impacts the game a ton. Favs is more skilled, but his skills don't always translate into positive team play in the same way. If they were on the same deal and in the same situation I'd probably pick Favors still, but with the contract situation and their attitudes in regard to starting/coming off the bench I think I'll go with Udoh.
