I hope you guys can understand this logic because it shouldn't be that hard to grasp.

Is Gordon worth limiting all other flexibility for the next 3 years though? If you have Biyombo at $17M/year and Gordon on a max then that's it. You're done making moves. That's your team your rolling with and you'll be limited on bench players you can sign for small deals.

It's not true

Fournier is not worth $17 million right now. He's definitely not worth $17 million in what this summer's market expects to be. Paying him $17 million in 2020-21 when we are trying to re-sign some key guys could be drastic. We could stomach contracts that go into 2019-20. Our threshold for poor contract tolerance ends after that summer. Biyombo would suck. Fournier would be the equivilant of AK's contract during the Deron years or Ostertag's contract during the Stock/Malone years.

It's only two years. Biyombo makes $17 next year and $17 in 2019-20. Fournier has that extra $17 for 2020-21. We don't have to re-sign Mitchell, Gobert, Ingles or O'Neale the next two years so Biyombo hurts but doesn't screw us. Fournier's contract could screw us.

Because down deep my posts cover topics that people have at least considered. As fans, we talk through scenarios and the beautiful thing is that we all can have our opinions. Glorious.

Of course I would rather have Fournier than Biyombo. However, Orlando probably puts positive value to Fournier and negative value to Biyombo as they should. BUT, BUT the goal here isn't Biyombo or Fournier. It's Gordon. If we want Gordon, you give up less by taking Biyombo than you do if you take Fournier.

You weren’t clear about the trade value aspect in the post I replied to... either way I do not see ya taking on that much dead money to overpay Gordon this summer. He’s good but I’m not sold on his shooting and he can’t seem to stay healthy. He also isn’t the lock down defender people might think. He can improve but I’m not giving 40% of my cap to get him and potentially other assets.

I was somewhat interested in Fournier when we were all thinking that Hood would be making $20M/yr. And there are some reasons to think he'd fit better than Hood. But it's worth rolling the dice and seeing if you can get Hood for less than that. Pretty good odds right now.

I would take a good 1st rounder, though. But that's about it.

Yes, it would be worth it. You have your team. I'm not convinced someone offers Gordon a Max if the Jazz trade to get him. Additionally, I have more faith in the Jazz assembling a bench from dumpster parts than I would any other team in the league.

Good points. If the question is Gordon, then hell no don't take Fournier or Biyombo. However, if our Front Office feels like Gordon can be the player to "maximize Gobert's prime years", then you do it.

Think about it - is it better to pay Biyombo and get Gordon OR just watch Favors and Joe Johnson and maybe even Hood just leave for nothing?

You can play Fournier with any of the core but you can only play Biyombo in the absence of Gobert, Udoh and Favors.

Also, Fournier is a contributor and could be traded. Biyombo's only real value is that he would be expiring.

I agree. I think Burks to Denver in some kind of big trade package has some value for both sides. No way we take back a bad contract AND give away Favors for pick 24-30. Thats just bad buisness!

They didn't say "a first." They said "a pick." In no universe does Denver trade us a first round pick this year. Their fans would burn down the building.

Ehh, they might. They have a hug decision on Jokic coming up. They can make him a RFA this year and pay him or put it off and pay him the minimum again and he hits UFA.

Obviously they'd be stupid to disrespect him like that, so they are going to max him. That's going to put them in the LT unless they are able to move off salary. They got to figure out something either now or in the summer.
