2 ways to look at it. To me, it sounds like you are rooting for us to get a ****ty draft pick, even though the team as constructed is never going anywhere. I wish we weren't the suck, but living in denial only makes it worse, so better to accept the truth and try to adapt.

We're not talking about deliberately throwing games here. We're talking about letting Burks heal and heal right. The longer it takes the better. We're talking about not getting decent free agents to fill any voids because what's the point in another 2-3 wins? We're talking about letting our youth play and play a lot, no matter how much we lose or how much their growing pains become painful to watch. We're talking about sucking so bad that we might just be able to get a top 3 pick and legit ****ing piece to put alongside Hayward.
If you don't have the stomach for this and just want pompom around to the Raja Bell's of the world, then please stfu and Willy Loman yourself another sale so your family has some food on the table.

I don't believe at any time Utah "tanked" last season. Nor will they do so this year. Don't see Quin ever telling the team to not play well or pulling starters in the 4th quarter of a close game. I also don't see Lindsey trading away key players for 2nd round picks. That said, we have to face reality: this team sucks. They don't have enough shooters to truly run Snyder's offense, nor do they have enough players who give a rat's *** about defense. This season is(was) about finding out who to keep/dump, if the current starters could play together and developing players like Exum, Gobert, etc who we KNOW can be part of the future.
After 20 games, I think we have a pretty good idea: Jazz are not going to win a ton of games and they need a few more good players. So maybe we don't use the word "tank." It's still the same: continue with the youth (i.e. don't make any dumb trades for aging vets at the deadline), continue to lose two out of every three, and see where we land in the lottery.
And forgive me for cheering for buzzer beaters by opponents. I'm a long-term Jazz fan. And that means I know the value of landing a franchise player. Jazz have several former top-10 picks on their team, but none are "elite." Jazz had the misfortune of drafting high in some weak drafts. And they've misjudged a few. Hopefully Exum and their next pick change that. If not, we ARE screwed.

The reality is if you make the decision at game 40, you're too late and pick #10 instead of #4. And historically there is an enormous talent/success gap between those two points.
We gave it 20 games, and are sitting at the 2nd worst defense in the NBA. Roster changes and one more talent piece is clearly needed.

Well, with Burks out, we've already made one change. Hood was never known as a great defender, but the effort is certainly there. I'd say it's probably too soon to bench Kanter. But the Jazz definitely need to see more of Gobert and Favors playing together. The direction of the draft and free agency moves may very well hinge on whether or not Gobert and Favors can play effectively together. Outside of lottery luck (Towns/Okafor), do the Jazz go for a stretch-4, or do they get another 5 to pair with Gobert? A lot depends on Derrick. He has a decent mid-range game now, but I don't see him ever extending out to 3-PT range. But if they had better perimeter shooting from their guards and backup SF, that would be ok.
IMO, Jazz need to draft a big to replace Kanter and then go hard after Matthews (option 1A) or Carroll (2A). I think they have a better chance of bringing back DMC due to his relationship with Quin. Hayward could move back to SG, with Alec becoming our scorer off the bench.
Watching Hood work hard on D has been a pleasure. Exum also tries. The rest of the team pretty much always look like they're chilling out. I don't know why they have such bad defensive habits/mentality.

I think Ingles also tries hard, but he has limited skills. Favors and Gobert are solid. Hayward takes losing hard, hangs his head, and then quits. Look at the D he played against LBJ. That was amazing! And Booker can bring attitude, but has tailed off. It's a downward spiral right now. I've been there on an amateur level...you just don't invest as much effort once the losing starts. The motivation isn't the same. Sure these guys are getting paid to play, but there's a completely different attitude when you're playing to win, vs. knowing that each game is likely going to be a loss.
To a certain extent, I think this is also what happens to Trey. He's "clutch" in the last 5 minutes if the Jazz are close. The concentration is better; the effort more intense. He just can't/won't do it for the first 43 mins. I just wish Exum were more polished so Trey would have a true threat behind him, ready to take away the starting job.

That's not the issue. Hood tries really hard. He runs with his man at full speed and intensity, he attempts to contest every shot, and he plays aggressively all game. He doesn't have the tools to be an elite defender, so of course he'll be destroyed now and again.
