Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Umm, 54-10. That's all that needs to be said (and I'm a BYU fan).

Utah is still >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BYU.

Right on. I don't recall ever saying (in this thread at least) that BYU was superior. BYU sucks rocks this year, no doubt about it. We got smoked by a Utah team that couldn't beat their meat, let alone a team from a real conference. It's sad, really.

I sure do enjoy watching Utah lose though. A whole bunch.

And I must say it's amusing seeing BYU fans mocking Utah, seeing how BYU ran scared to independent status and got mudholed by the Utes just a couple weeks ago.

About the only thing I'll add is that I've come to realize how bad BYU really is.

Guess none of the 3 Utah teams are ready for the spotlight.

Utah State was supposed to "take that next step." Well, that's pretty much screwed, they're 1-3.

BYU was supposed to have a prolific passing offense with Doman calling plays and Heaps taking his talents to Provo, Utah. BYU sucks.

Utah was supposed to compete for the PAC-12 Championship.... Vegas Bowl anyone?

It's a good thing that I have Direct TV. At least with them I get to watch good competitive SEC football. This Utah brand sucks.

Funny how I don't hear a bunch of morans spouting off about east coast bias and how these types of teams will roll with anyone in the country. Dumbasses.

Wow. I have to say I am a little surprised the Utes were THAT bad. Wouldn't have been shocked if they lost to a pretty decent UW team, but they weren't even competitive.

Utah sucked last night, no doubt. But lets not forget that Utah looked really good in the first half. Whitt benched Fotu and the defense suffered, big time. And Wynn got hurt which killed the offense. But before all of that happened, Utah looked like they were probably going to blow them out. Had a few stupid turnovers that kept the game close, but I doubt there were many people who didn't expect it to get worked out in the second half.

Unfortunately, the defense took a huge hit without Fotu in the second half, and the offense took a huge hit without Wynn in the second half.

It's not the end of the world though. If the Utes win the rest of the conference games they still have a great chance to be in the Pac 12 championship game. Now I am not saying it will be easy or expected or anything- don't know the extent of Wynn's injury. But at least it's not like the season is over or anything like that.

If Wynn is out for an extended period, hopefully Hays can get a lot of practice time to get in sync with the offense. It was pretty brutal watching him lead the offense last night. And it's too bad because Wynn was finally looking good before he got hurt. He was actually throwing the ball down the field.

Why did Fotu get benched? Besides the turnovers, I thought the biggest play was when Dres Anderson dropped that long pass in the first quarter. Follow that up with John Cullen's false start on 4th and 1, the turnovers, and the drive continuing personal fouls. Just a horribly sloppy game.

That 2nd half was brutal. Without Wynn this team is in real trouble. He looked good outside of 1 pass near the goaline last night.

Any word on the extent of his injury and how long he is out?

On defense they played well until they seemed to get tired. The majority of the 3rd quarter they were on the field. Tough to continue stopping someone when you don't get much of a rest. I think last night showed that Utah's depth is a bit of a problem. Hopefully they can fix that as they are in the pac-12 longer.

Yeah, those were all huge plays. Anderson has been awesome so I guess I can look the other way on that dropped pass 9and several other bad plays last night). But Cullen has been making mistake after mistake in every game. That penalty was a game changer. a 4th and short, likely 1st down, changed to a 4th and long turnover on downs (doesn't help that the fg kicker is probably the worst in the NCAA).

I don't know why Fotu was benched. I saw Whitt yelling at him around the time of those penalties that Washington used to score right before the half. Maybe one of the penalties was on him or Whitt thought it was his fault or something?

On the bright side, that was rock bottom. Utah will probably never play worse than that second half last night, and it was still better than 54-10.

Last night sucked, but it was still better than watching that very same Utah team trounce a New Mexico squad in a MWC match-up. This is life in the Pac 12. If you're not ready, you will get stomped. Utah is obviously going to have QB issues the rest of the way. I'd give Hayes his chance but I still think Shreve is the way to go. There's still some pretty bad teams on Utah's schedule the rest of the way. They should still be in the picture for 8 wins which is what I thought they would end up with at the beginning of the season, but they've got ALOT of work to do to get there.

Although he's already a strong verbal, they need to focus on keeping QB Travis Wilson out of SoCal as a solid commit until signing day. He's the type of QB Utah's going to need to start landing if they are going to compete.
