Valedictorian Denied Diploma

Whoever I heard it from was wrong. It is against the law to hold back transcripts (except a few exceptions) and that is all the college needed.

I see. In essence the school is holding back a piece of paper. No wonder she is hesitant to apologize. It's not like many people have their High School Diploma on the fireplace mantle.

So who has their high school diploma anyhow? I have no idea where mine is. I don't think my kids have any clue where theirs are either.

(Hint to kids: Check the bottom drawer in the dining room buffet among all the seldom used placemats and tablecloths. If they're not there, check the shelves in that mess of a closet that serves as my "home office")

And if that encounter between the Principal and the girl and her father is true, that principal should be worried about keeping his job. If for no other reason than poor grammar "You and me..." Aside from that, he sounds like he's on a power trip.

I didn't actually get my HS diploma until a week or so before I left for boot camp when I was 23. I always claimed to have a diploma on applications. No one is going to question if you have it or not unless you don't know how to speak and write correctly.

I don't have my diploma on my fire place, but I DO have my Valley High School Honor Roll certificate on my fridge. It's an "alternative" school for kids who drop out of regular highk school, so I enjoy the irony of being on the honor roll there.

Any other Valley High School Owls on jazzfanz?? Or does the SL County jail not have innernet yet? Jkjk

Seriously? Because she said hell in her speech you think she's some kind of bad person?

I'm not saying she's bad, just defiant as evidenced by the fact that she disagrees with and won't do what the school is telling her to do to get her diploma.

She could apologize, but maybe she is standing on principle because of her history with the bully principal. I don't think anyone should have to apologize to a bully.

Maybe, but I doubt it. I'm sure someone working had enough at school to be the class valedictorian would hardly have the time to have much of a history with the principal. The way I see it, is she made what was probably an honest mistake in saying hell instead of heck. The school has taken a needlessly harsh action over the honest mistake, and now the girl is so offended by the action that she stubbornly refuses to concede that she made a mistake in the first place. Both parties are at fault, and now they're in a stalemate of sorts.

You've got to be kidding. You didn't really go to Valley, did you? I wasn't still that crappy old elementary school on State St when you went there, was it?

The Valedictorian at a high school in Oklahoma didn't get her diploma because she used the word "hell" in her speech at graduation, after she used the word "heck" in the written version she submitted for approval beforehand. She'll have to submit a written apology to get it. At first I had some sympathy for the student, but then I read this:

"In her speech—inspired by a similar address in "Eclipse: The Twilight Saga"—Kaitlin recounted how annoying it is to be constantly asked what she wants to do as graduation approached. "How the hell do I know?" she said, according to her father. "I've changed my mind so many times."

She should never get her diploma no matter how much she apologizes.
Hell yeah, that will teach that trampire a lesson.

Oh, and I believe it's a Night Owl.

Irregardless of the outcome, I think the principal needs a visit from our very own colton to set him straight. Of course, with all the negative national publicity, it would probably be a mute point by then.

Haha, sure did. Yes, it was that incredibly crappy elementary school. Mice EVERYWHERE.

Had some bad experiences? Anything you'd like to get off your chest?

Many, I was/am just a rebellious student all the time and I've never stepped back against them but they've always tried to control me more and sadly most of them started to use the exam card and grade card soon or later. But of course I had great teachers too. I was just overstating when I said I hate them.

Just Owls when I went there. Maybe they changed it with the new school though.

You know one of Larry H. Miller's kids went there? You went there after I did, don't kid yourself. Was Jeff still the English/Journalism teacher?

Oh I didn't realize you were saying you went there. I never had a teacher named Jeff.

Off the top of my head I had...Fred, Marty, Brian, Joan, Ben (crazy art teacher)

She's actually in jeopardy of losing her full ride scholarship, so maybe they can.

So the principal is actually denying her graduation instead of just not giving her the stupid piece of paper? Wow.

EDIT: Never mind, I see that issue has been cleared up.

I would send this principal an apology letter absolutely littered with as many swear words as I could find. I'd try to channel my inner George Carlin.
