What's new

Veterans are coming...time to panic?

People have to realize you have to have some vet players on a team.

next year is perfect for a tank job and to develop the youth to see the needs for 2015-2016

ok, bring in again some vets over young talent and this is an 14th lottery team once again + they can lose favors and hayward, you know the guys from us team

I'm not worried at all to be honest.

The same genius FO that traded for Burke, Gobert and Neto CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT be the same FO that will bring in lackluster vets to eat their valuable playing time.

It was also that same genius FO that was about to draft alligator arms ;-) if he was there at 14. We now know that because Boston got him that's what set this thing in motion. We would have got Kelly, the soft no armed pasty center over Schroeder. Probably then went after Wolters, and then resigned Mo. That version is far less exciting then where we are currently at. As much credit as they have got over the past 30 hours, it seemed like it was more divine intervention helping us.....

Forgetting about his short arms for the minute, I think he can really be our future 3rd big and as you know that can command big money in the free agency. So having him being ready to play right away more or less, as he's a great shooter (he shot 63/100 from 3's in the workout), would be GOLD. Ainge from the Celtics aren't stupid, they grabbed him while they can no questions asked.

I think if we grabbed Kelly at #14 as planned, it's quite likely we use #21 and our 2nd rounder and move up to grab Schroeder. We can still get that 2nd rounder and use it on Raul Neto, so that's fine.

Then it becomes:

Kelly & Schroeder VS Gobert & Burke

Obviously I prefer Gobert & Burke, but to me that's still close talent wise...

Call me skeptical, people were excited about Burks and Kanter after the draft (not as excited as this year) but then the organization crushed our excitement by bringing Foye and not playing Kanter. If they start bringing back Foye, Mo and even one of the two Millsap/AJ then it will be the same old thing. The next couple of weeks are going to be interesting. I'd rather bring in some new FAs that have shown they are fine with being backups. Mo, Millsap and AJ are not coming back to be reserves so a negative environment could occur if they are given reserve roles.

You tell Carl Landry we are looking for a vet who can work hard and be an example to the young guys, but you are going to be a reserve. You give him some extra money up front or an extra year. 3 years (player option) 7 million. He is happy and he knows his role. You bring back Mo/Millsap/AJ and they are wanting to get paid and are more apt to pout if you put them on the bench. We don't want another Raja incident.

Maybe the Celtics will want AJ and we won't have to deal with it. Mo might just look at a playoff team and feel it is better to go that route. Millsap I believe will have more choice but the Nets are no longer a possibility. Maybe Portland revisits acquiring Millsap to appease Aldridge but they both play the same position. Maybe Dwight leaves LA and the Jazz do a sign and trade. Maybe Millsap goes out in FA and realizes there aren't a lot of starting jobs so he comes back humbled and agrees to a decent contract and a 6th man role. All I know is I will wait to see what happens in FA before I get to excited..besides summer league also has a chance to crush our excitement.

It's been reported that Mo said he's not re-signing if he's not starting. Looks like he's not coming back. Big All is too expensive, so no way....

Millsap & Foye could have a shot at coming back...

When was the last time a relatively young team won a championship. This team is at the very least 5 years away from competing for a championship. You need skilled vets to get anywhere in this league.

The vision I hope we have is brining in vets to compliment the core. Not the other way around.
We need to be clear, and focused on that.

Once again, you talk me back from the ledge.

I came across a draft review show on NBA TV last night and David Aldridge, who I usually have a lot of respect for, said one of the least informed things a national guy could say about the Jazz and their fan base. He said that the Jazz need to bring back either Millsap or Jefferson, otherwise, it sends a bad message to the fans.

We watched that as well. My wife and I laughed, called him names and then changed the channel.

New guy out there on free agent market. The much beloved Andrei Kirilenko. Any takers?

Honestly I wouldn't hate it, but since he opted out of 10 million I'd assume he's probably looking for a long-ish deal (3-4 years) and I don't know if I'd be up for that.
