What's new

Warriors waived Kevin Murphy :/

I can't feel too sorry for the guy. 2nd round picks are a craps shoot at best and he wasn't nba talent. He made it to the nba which can only help him get playing time in Europe or Asia. I know it isn't good for him to get cut from a team, but considering his size at that position he probably shouldn't have been drafted in the first place

He did have that 50 point game in college.

Small? He's taller than Clark by a good margin, and in college he showed elite shooting. The only difference from Clark besides being taller is that we had a year to look at him and discover his weaknesses. All i'm saying is that we need to keep our expectations a bit low for Clark, he isn't the savior of the franchise, and there's very little chance he's the second coming of Wes Matthews. More likely he's another Kevin Murphy, but the Jazz need to fill a roster without throwing out multiyear guaranteed contracts, so here he is.

(mind you, i do have hopes he'll stick)

Well I know we need scrubs to fill the roster, but I would rather take a chance at a d-league all star than him

Has any player been traded for 8 players before then cut a month later? That's got to be some sort of record. Murphy is now immortalized in NBA history

Heck, has one player ever been traded for 8 players before? We literally traded Murphy for an 8 man rotation. Crazy.
Huh? How was he traded for 8 players?

Actually it is 7, 3 players and 4 draft picks. The extra second rounder was a result of trading Foye. When you put it as trading Murphy for 7 possible roster slots, that IS kind of silly.

I guess if you look at it that way. I'm no attorney - maybe SirKicky can weigh in. There seems to always be a throw-in on deals like this. In my mind, giving a team monetary relief seems sufficient "consideration."

No doubt. The real trade was 2 unprotected firsts for cap space. The ceiling of the cap space was acquiring Iggy for Golden State, there was nothing that Murphy added to the deal. The upside of the two firsts is yet to be determined, which is simultaneously both more fun and more frustrating. Anything we get out of the two seconds or the three players is pure found money. A second rounder DID get us Neto though, so there is some value there. Rush might turn into something also.
