Watson allegedly interested in re-signing with Jazz

Free agency starts on the 9th. They probably are not allowed to contact him yet. They can talk to other teams about players under contract, but not free agents.

everything i've read around league rumor sites and in team-related columns is that 99% of conversations at this stage are exploratory anyway. nobody's going to offer specific contract terms before the last few system issues are ironed out, so right now it's just a bunch of teams and players having abstract discussions.

+10 for spelling "re-signing" correctly. According to a lot of posts on here, we have a lot of people that hope players will quit the Jazz.

I'd be totally flabbergasted if the Jazz didn't want Watson back. In my mind, the question is only $, in which case that would be a pretty big issue. I'm not sure if his contribution last year looks as good if he was making Raja Bell money or more (probably the market he's looking at right now).

I'd like Watson to be here, but he's not very important in the scheme of things.

Agree entirely. However, if Bell were gone, I would be ok with paying Watson a little heavier simply due to his veteran presence, he is a solid playmaker and backup, and he knows what we have gone through and what we are trying to do better than a new guy will. And for the money, we probably will not be able to get much better anyway.

Best new I've heard all day, even if it doesn't mean much. I want nothing more that to see watson back this season.

I would like to see Watson resigned, but he wouldn't be the most talented guy we could sign. I have two reasons: 1) he can help a lot with whatever new additions to the offense Ty installs because he's seen everything. The whole vet thing. But 2), the biggest reason I like him is I think he'll go out of his way to help the young bigs get shots like he did with Evans. I'd bet 95% of PG's in the league would have virtually ignored a rookie like Evans and tried to make plays with other guys. I'm probably reaching, but I think he'll do that with Kanter, Favors, and Burks, too. He's a heady guy who knows getting everyone involved helps the bottom line.

I don't think you're reaching at all. Watson is about as solid a backup PG for a young athletic squad that you'll find. He's exactly who I want bringing these guys along. If I were KOC, his agent would have received a first-contact call on the first day possible -- just out of respect, and to let him know we're interested.

I don't understand. If you like Watson so much, why do you want him to resign? And how can he resign from the Jazz anyway, if he's not currently under contract?

I want Watson to resign the same way I hope you resign as a moderator (which means you both have my seal of approval you have been dying to get.)

If the Jazz like Watson, they should offer him two years. He paid his dues last year, and we have enough challenges with new players trying to learn the system...whatever that is right now.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but I was going for humor. There were several posts directly above yours talking about the difference between resign and re-sign.

P.S. glad to have your seal of approval! :-)

Yeah, I got it. I was going for humor, too. We're on the same page.

I really hope we re-sign "the blaxican" he was much more than i had hoped for when we first got him. I expected nothing and was pleasantly surprised.
