We Have To Fix Burks "J"

As we all know, this board knows way more than any NBA coach or assistant coach. If Burks is going to be a star, he has got to get a consistent jumper. I think it's up to us to fix his jumper so he can be the star we all hope he ends up being.

He has a nice stroke, but his jumper is consistently flat. I think his right palm touches the ball when he shoots and flatten his shot. I also think he doesn't consistently set his feet. He also has the exact opposite problem of Hayward, he shoots too quickly.

Don't get me wrong, I love Burks, he just needs to shoot better from the outside. He obviously isn't going to change his shot this year. But, he is young and has a strong work ethic. What else does he need to do to change his jumper?

Maybe we should bring in reggie miller to be our shooting coach.

Oh wait we already have one of the best shooter ever as one of our coaches!!

He is a Rookie give hime time with Horny over the summer and he'll be good.

Oh yeah, because Horny's really done a great job teaching everyone else how to shoot well...ex. Miles & Hayward. Aren't the Jazz near dead last in 3pt. FG% ?

Burks is a scorer, give him time and his jumpshot will come into play...I still say he has the ability to become a poor mans Dwyane Wade

Ummm he does everything else so well that it's not a difference to me. But if he's going to be a star, then that jumper needs to be down. Either that, or just drive in and draw another foul.

"WE" have to fix his jumper? I'm not sure a bunch of Jazz nerds on the internet are really going to be able to help.

You know who has to fix Alec Burks' jumper? Alec Burks. It was a known fact that this kid's strong suit coming into the league was driving the lane and getting to the foul line. The fact that he's made any threes at all has been a pleasant surprise.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm not going to be frustrated if he never develops a consistent outside shot.

His jump shot is miles ahead of what brewers was. Burks has the quality of being able to shoot of the dribble. I think his jump shot is better than we think. Obviously he does and that is why he shoots 3 pointers more than expected. He seems confident in his jumper and I am confident in him. I think his jump shot will get much better.

If he had a consistent jumper, then he wouldn't have been there at #12.

So far he is better than I thought he'd be, but he has the exact set of "limitations" as the player we drafted a few months ago. I have confidence that he will get better off the ball, and better at set shots.

I'm pretty sure the best shooters of all time know the least about what makes a shot good. It was all luck and no work for them. They just got lucky, like Ray Allen, who does not have an itch that he can't scratch.

Hayward shot really well with a pre-season and training camp with Horny, terrible without it.

Burks has a great handle and can drive and finish in the lane. I think he will improve his shot, but he has got to be a knock-down shooter. By the way, I agree that if Horny is our shooting coach, the results say we need to make a change there.

This. It's not like you're going to get a clean prospect at 12, he's got some holes in his game he needs to fill in but that's all part of the development process.

It's funny to see everyone whining about Hornacek coaching our shooters. First of all, Kirilenko had a career season shooting the 3 when they began bringing Horny in to work part-time, but currently Hornacek isn't a "shooting coach" he's a an assistant coach whose duties go far beyond simply coaching our players up on their "shot." Also, Utah's had a limited practice and training camp so it's not like Jeff has had alot of time to be working with these guys outside of a shootaround.

Finally, you could bring Holger Geschwindner in and you still wouldn't see an improvement in the accuracy of Earl Watson's three or CJ Miles stepback. Those flaws go beyond a "shooting coach." If we bring Dominique Wilkins in, he's not going to teach Al Jefferson how to windmill.

He are Burks shooting numbers, they are pretty bad. His super flat shot really kills his short and mid range game, but do go in with some consistency from long range. Hopefully he is spending his summer working on it.
