What's new

we need to adress the Pink N-word in the room

1) Yes everyone can use it (tactfully) in a serious discussion about race.

2) These journalists are being silly.

3) You are right we cannot compare what blacks have had to deal with to what rednecks have had to deal with, but it does illustrate the point that you cannot use a derogatory term in a friendly way if you are not a member of that group without offending people. It's a back handed compliment at best.

ok, it was fun though seeing these cnn, fox, abc msnbc journalist tactfully trying to dance and not use the word.

after obama the president of the united states used the N word as representative of america as a whole. imho it is open season on using the N-word.

if a president of the country can use the n word. the presiding president who represents white boys all over america.
the leader of the free world.
it is not that he used the n word as just some random half black dude. no he used it while being president in an interview!

which means every american now can use the world freely!

agree or disagree?

This thread is amazingly dumb, even for you.

And I will not leave this thread, except bumping it sort of does commit a crime to intelligence.

Dutch, there's an expression "you can't see the forest for the trees" - - think about that for a while.

i have given up on this debate already.

i thought if obama represented the people. and he does something the people as a whole could kinda do it.

but i forget now leaders are like loyalty different set of rules
his kids have 12 armed men to go to school with while he wants you children to go to gun free zones.

ROYALTY lives under different rules sometimes i forget that

Dutch we can all say whatever the **** we want and if I say the n word as part of a discussion about the problem of racism no one would likely be offended.

So in short, we can all do what president Obama did without concern.

You can use it. You just can't say sup ****** or I hate *******. As a white dude it would be perfectly acceptable for you to say:

"Racism, We are not cured of it, and it's not just a matter of it not being polite to say '******' in public. That's not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It's not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don't, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior."

300 years ago it was pretty common for girls to marry at 14-16 years old. Not that common now. Why can't we erase things?

That part is false.

What?

You need to elaborate. I am unsure what you're trying to say? Why can't we erase racism, the word ******, history? It would help if you would clarify.

But, legally, we can all say *$(#*& or *$^@ or even )!*$&(-$(<]%^ any time we want. Freedom of speech. Now, of course, if you're saying it TO someone, or in a workplace, there may well be repercussions.

There can be social and cultural repercussions from anything we say. Freedom to speak doesn't make any attempt to regulate the reaction to that speech.

well either it is lost in translation

or my argument /opinion has no value because it is not Politically correct!

Or your argument is invalid because it's idiotic and you're ignoring the point that has been brought up to you repeatedly about CONTEXT.

Correct. Although it is generally illegal to react to words violently.
