We should not have traded NAW

Actually the most valuable asset in the entire trade might be us taking westbrick off the Lakers hands.
I remember seeing folks on jazzfanz talking about getting 2 first round picks simply by taking Westbrick off the Lakers hands. Not even giving them any players in the deal. Them losing westbrick was huge for them.

The effect on the Lakers record by losing westbrick is probably greater than the effect on our record will be from the draft compensation that we end up getting.

Lol… people on here told me Minnesota was guaranteed to be a top-3 seed and that we weren’t tanking. I was on record saying I would have taken Westbrook and a pick swap bare minimum and we actually ended up getting a great first.

You do realize that the Lakers being better directly helps us in three different ways right?

Minnesota’s pick could be worse due to the Lakers being better.

Our own pick will be better due to the Lakers being better.

New Orleans not getting a high draft pick from a swap is good for us in the future and that is due to the Lakers being better.

Of course. But the lakers were desperate to get rid of him and him being gone is helping them the most. They got 3 guys to help them win and lost a guy who helps them win. And they might have simply lost a couple second round picks in the deal. If the jazz got 3 guys to help them win (all three of which are likely to continue to get better) and got rid of guy we were desperate to get rid of and all we gave up was a protected first that might end up as 2 seconds then I would be ecstatic. Like im sure they are.

It could also end up 5-10. If we traded a first in 2027 that ended up 5-10 and what we got out of the deal was a first round exit in 2023 would you be ecstatic?

Depends. Do we end up as a first round exit or do we go deep into the playoffs? Do the players we got improve in the coming years?

All I know is if the jazz got 3 young players to help them win and got rid of a guy we were desperate to get rid of and all we gave up was a top 4 protected first that conveys to 2 second round picks if it lands in the top 4 then I would be ecstatic. Now if it turned out we gave up the 5th pick then that would change the way I felt as that would mean that the guys we got didn't help us get better long term and we gave up a really good pick.

Can only wait and see for that kind of stuff. I just know I would be super happy with the trade if I were a lakers fan at this point.

You do realize they’re 4-6 since trading for Conley and NAW right? They were 30-28 before the trade and are now 34-34. They went 14-7 in their last 21 games before the trade. They got worse.

Making Wolves better? They are 4-6 with Conley.

We made the Lakers better which helps both of our picks but that Minny picture is so stupid since its a snapshot of their lowest point over a month before the trade, and DLo hot shooting was instrumental in carrying them out of that hole.

Eh, 10 games in, still to early. Look how long it took for Conley to get into any kind of groove here, where we were already highly successful and just looking for the 2nd Robin on a contender. It will take them a while to really get into a groove.
