True detective season 1 might be the best television i have ever witnessed.
You obviously never saw The Wire.
Ya I loved the first couple seasons of the wire and those seasons are probably top 5 tv for me.You obviously never saw The Wire.
I've seen The Wire. I stand by my statement that it is the best show in the history of television. Season one of TD though blows it and any other single season in television history away though. Cy's moronic comment about it was only the acting (I'll let it slide. Cy is in epic troll-moron mode) is so ludicrous. The cinematography, music, writing (heavily borrowed but whatevs--the themes here really helped drive this), direction...everything was freakin' superior.
Yeah everything besides the last few episodes where the writing stumbled over itself and really marred the show. And the music and cinematography where all there in season 2 (the location wasnt as unique) and it sucked because the acting was mediocre (w/ some being awful) and the writing got exposed. Without the two leads in season 1 the shows is probably meh.
I can agree that the first 30 minutes of episode 8 was shaky. You're way off on the music and cinematography of season 2 though. The music did nothing to elevate the show and create mood like it did in season 1 and the sweeping shots of freeway after freeway were overdone and completely unoriginal. Most of all, the setting just sucked though. No one cares about soulless LA and some dumbass land development deal whose "evil" motives" are nothing more than money.
I vaguely even remember what Season 1's story-line was other than that it was kind of vapid and ended poorly. To me I remember it as a style over substance show. Just a glaring lack of ability from a writing perspective and that was only confirmed with how poorly written Season 2 was.
