What's new

What are your expectations of Favors this season?

Numbers wise and role on the team?

I am sitting here pulling my hair out going back and forth on how high I should set the bar for him this season? I have no idea how the rotation is going to work in the front court - and I don't really have a preference at this point - but I feel like he's got to be on the court at least 25 minutes. I'm trying to temper my expectations because he's still a youngster but I say 15, 9 and 1.5 blocks in a starting role. If that means bringing Sap or Al off the bench, so be it. Hopefully Memo isn't even in the picture. But if he's on the court over Favors (assuming Favors isn't in foul trouble) for any time whatsoever, Ty should be fired on the spot.

What's everyone expect (not hope) for Favors this year?

Favors wouldn't average 15 points if he played 35 minutes. Pretty near impossible to average 15 points if you can't create your own shot, and he definitely can't. I actually think he'll only average 8 next season, but 10 sounds so much better than 8 I put 10.

Totally disagree on the creating his own shot. He scores in the post and facing up. Now he isn't going to dribble the length of the court but he doesn't need to.

Hopefully Memo isn't even in the picture.

Or better yet, Utah uses him in limited minutes off the bench so they can try and get some trade value out of him.

I'm guessing most people's expectations for Favors are too optimistic. I will just be happy if he dominates defensively this year. I don't expect him to be a scoring machine.

It will be interesting to see how much he's improved offensively. I think Memo will cut into Kanter's minutes, not Favors'. I predict Derrick will average 30 mins - unless he gets into foul trouble. Chitownjazz might be pretty close; my guess is favors will be somewhere in the 12-15 pt range, just on put-backs and a few passes into the post, 8-9 rbds and 2 blocks.

Did you forget to watch favors actually play last season?

I'll bet anyone any amount that Favors will average over 10ppg

Don't get me wrong, I love the kid. He's a top 1% NBA athlete. I saw him do things last year that give me great hope for what he might actually become.

But the kid has no real offensive game at the moment. Yeah, he showed a little jumper. And once a game he would make one of those WOW moves with his athleticism. But he has no idea how he's going to attack a defender when the ball gets dropped to him. He has no post game. No hook, no drop step, no pick and roll instinct, no fakes. I'm not saying he won't get it, I'm saying he doesn't have it.

I don't see an offensive leap from him until at least next year. But this year, he can be become a monster rebounder and defensive presence. That's enough for me. I just don't think he's going to be anything more than an opportunistic scorer this season.

I swear Prodigy's Derrick Favors 2011 mix is full of them (jump hooks, baseline moves, drop steps) , and that was only for the few months he was with Utah. Coupled with the reports of him working on his offensive moves over the summer, and the moves he pulled at the charity game (I know, it was just a charity game) I feel like you're underestimating his offensive skills.

If no one is traded, i don't expect him to have more than 20 mins. Maybe coach can shift millsap to 3 (which is the stupidest idea ever for me) , but Jefferson will get plenty of mins, and Memo is in extremely good shape right now, i watched him in Turkey, many people will be surprised how good he is after big injury.

And Kanter will get at least 15 mins lets say, so that gives Favors around 20-25 mins. I don't care about his stats, but this year, he should just prove, he is the future of the team, and he can do much more than just jumping and dunking around (which is just the fancy part of basketball). I expect him to contribute efficiently every min he is on the court.

Favors has good patience and footwork in the post. He can score on either side of the hoop, and he has nice touch off the glass. He hasn't used pump fakes much because no one has shown that they can get in front of him and block his first attempt. He just rolls over other PFs or reaches around them with his length.

I agree

I would be happy with 8/8/1.5. Just hope he gets to see the court enough with our glut at his POS.

He has a very good up and under move. He needs to develop and baby hook shot over one of his shoulders. He may have already. He has a great baseline spin move.

But where he is going to get his points is as the roll man in a pick and roll or in the open court. He is a great finisher at the rim with a dunk or either hand.

Not sure what you were watching last year. He showed some good moves. Can or should he improve? Of course. We won't know what kind of improvements he has made until we see him play.

Howard still doesn't have much in the way of low post moves. Favors will be fine. I think he will dictate weather Millsap or or Jefferson are traded.
