What Do We Do this Off Season if the Tank Fails?

OK what say you if our current standing place becomes our draft order and we do not get into the top 3? What free agents do we sign. Who do we bring back? Hopefully Ty is put on waivers but who else stays on the Island?

Sale the team! Haha jk

Honestly I don't believe one guy from this draft is going to make us contenders over night. I still see growing pains for a couple more years. And I am okay with that. I love the Jazz rebuilding or fighting in the playoffs. Just a joy to have a team in this great state to cheer for.

As far as changed, Corbin will go. Not so sure the Jazz match Hayward. They will extend Burks and Kanter.

The FO should look into a package for a top 3 pick depending on who declares for the draft.

Then they should resign Hayward as long as it is not a max contract.

The FO/coaches should pull the future of this club together and explain that they expect to hear about them working out/practicing together regularly this summer. As well as individual goals.

FO absolutely must let Corbin walk and redo the entire coaching and development staff. This is a crucial step that cannot be messed up. I am not versed in potential coaches enough to venture any names.

Bring over Neto and resign Garrett depending on who they draft.

This would have a roster of:

Favors/Bobert
Kanter/Evans
Hayward
Burks
Burke/Neto/Garrett

Along with 1-2 draft picks on the team depending on if they did some trades.

At this point they more than likely need to focus on wings and bigs in free agency.

Jamal Crawford, Nick Young, Chandler Parsons, Zach Randolph, Marvin Williams, Marcin Gortat are all potential targets. I think the Jazz focus on shoring up the bench at this point.

How does this sound as a team:

Favors/Gobert
Randolph/Kanter/Evans
Hayward/Williams
Burks/Crawford
Burke/Smart/Neto

That is 12 plus a couple end of benchers.

or

Embiid/Gobert
Favors/Kanter/Evans
Hayward/Williams
Nick Young/Burks (6th man)
Burke/Neto/Garrett

that is 12 plus a couple end of benchers.

Edit: tried to be realistic with who with draft which is why I used Embiid and Smart. Randle/Gordon would also work instead of Embiid.

I don't think we will know if the tank worked until 2017 or 2018. This draft has a lot of high floor and higher ceiling players. Wiggins, for example, could be Rudy Gay (not bad) or LeBron James. Embiid could be Thabeet or Hakeem. Parker could be Pierce or Carmello. Gordon could be a much better Griffin or AK. All of these players (except maybe Parker) will need 2-3 years to see what they become.

Because of that, and because the ONLY way Utah can hope to build a contender is by following the OKC model, I say strip down the team again, this time go younger, try to get one more top 5 pick, ala OKC and then make your championship run knowing you will add two picks in 2017 that could help.

I would go with this team next year:

Burke, Lucas, Neto
Burks, ???, ???
???, ???, ???
Favors, Murphy, Evans
Kanter, Gobert

You will fill in the SG and SF positions with your draft picks, and young FA's. You will probably only win between 25-30 games again. You will then add another top 5 pick to your team. At that point, you will have two top 5 picks, Favors, and Burke to build around.

You can then make some decisions on Burks, Kanter, other FA's, etc.

Gobert, Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks and Burke have an average age of 21.8. Can't get much younger than that. DO you mean instead of Williams, Rush and Jefferson players like Clark, Thomas and Garrett?

wiggins will never be lebron james

he's going to be like derozzen if anything.

as for gordon he has no shot at being a better griffin nor a match for griffin. His ceiling is a griffin lite.

Just get a new ****ing coach. Make sure he knows defense.

I'm confident we'll get a couple of good players from the draft. And, I hope we add a couple of perimeter-defense specialists like Sefolosha and Aminu -- the likes of whom are always putting out maximum energy defending the opponents' best perimeter player ... while shooting somewhere in the 30s from 3, on a limited number of attempts ... a last-option offensive player who knows how to move the ball.

Yes. Clark is a great example. Summer league MVP, does some things nice, find out if he is an NBA player. Same with Gobert. Gobert looks good on paper, but we have no idea how he will be. I don't think keeping Hayward and Burks at 7-11 million each is a good idea. I'm liking Burks more than Hayward. See if he can be a starter. Do the same with Kanter.

Remove the vets, turn the team over to the new coach and see what happens. Then, you will know what you have, you will know how to move forward etc.

Remember, it took OKC three years to build their team. If we "tank" this year and next, due to the great pick in Burke and having Favors, Burks and Kanter already, it may only take us two years to get what they have.

This is a smart man

Do you want Michael Jordan to buy the team, too?

how is he anything like Griffin except for in the Hops Department?

Gordon is a defensive specialist. Griffin plays defense like......

I hope you enjoy your new past time... watching basketball can be fun.

Rebuilds take 3 to 5 years, unless you get Hornacek to coach your time.

They can and I guess it depends on when you say the Jazz rebuild started. For a team going into a rebuild the Jazz are fairly excellerated with 6 future players at a young but fairly advanced development for that age. At most I could be pursuaded to support 1 more year, not 2-3 more.

Lets not chance failure... Let's just sacrifice you to the lottery gods.

who knows what'll happen. steph curry, the dude that was singlehandedly annihilating us last night, was picked at 7. Some times high projected guys fall a couple spots. crazier things have happened. Itd be too early for a few years, to know if we're screwed or not with our position. its all educated guess work anyway. Just cross your fingers for a top 3 so we can control our destiny a little better.

If I was the GM of the Jazz. Seeing how much this fan base is in love with me I would have to stay the course. Keep Corbin because he is a perfect scapegoat for the team. Then if I couldn't resign the whole same team, I would have to look for some more washed up Vets to resurrect their careers. Maybe Stoudemire, Kaman, or Diaw if they are up for 30 + min a game. Then I would draft anyone because if no one is going to put pressure on the tank during a horrible season with an above average draft class. Then there must not be a real expectation for anything to change.

Utah needs to get better everywhere and at every position. For some positions the players may drastically improve over the summer, but otherwise Utah could use help at every position. In the Lottery this year, there is a difference maker at every position. They may not be all stars for every position, but there are guys who can make every position a little deeper and better.
