What's new

What do we need... really.

^ Could Brandon Knight be that guy? He showed ability to hit the clutch shots at Kentucky. There is definite void in leadership after we traded D-Will.

though we would have to be patient with him. d harris has to be the leader now i think.

Knight's teammates respond very well to him. He handles them well. Low emotion, but he's high intellect player that others seem to trust quickly. He's not ready to lead an NBA team at this point, but all the intangibles of a great leader are undoubtedly there.

We already have a dynamic duo/trio down low in Favors/Millsap/Jefferson. Why should we draft another big?

I say a swingman, maybe a tweener(Williams), and a combo guard in the draft.

You're right about the Jazz needing a wing, but this year's draft isn't supplying much to choose from there. I'm against drafting for need this year when the wing prospects in 2012 are so superior. For now the Jazz should WAIT on drafting a wing (If they're able to get a second round pick I'd be ok with drafting Jimmy Butler, but don't spend the 3 or the 12 on a wing this year). Next year will bring the Jazz their starting 3.

This year draft BPA.

If Williams can play 3 (and he falls to 3) I think he will be an awesome wing player, possibly better than next years prospects. Ive seen a lot of pimping of Barnes but I think Williams will have a better career.

Harris
Hayward
Williams
Favors
Jefferson

That's a pretty good lineup!

Well, and the odds of landing Barnes next year are pretty slim. Maybe Gilchrist.

Williams might be awesome IF he can play the 3. Dunno. But if he falls to 3 you have to take him. BPA. He'll be a great PF at least, and IF he can play the 3 he'll be on par with the best of the 2012 wing prospects (except I still give the edge to Barnes - oh if only he could be a jazzman).

This is the direction I was hoping this thread would take. I mean really... Two very glaring holes were just pointed out. Someone that demands 100% effort, and that leads to that demand by example was my biggest concern. We don't have that, and it frustrates me. In my opinion, Deron Williams wasn't that guy... it was Wes. That guy came in undrafted, expected 100% effort on both sides of the court, and showed he was willing to make that happen. That's the difference between two years ago, and last year. Brandon Knight seems like the kinda guy that can do that.

But that other hole that I'm only slightly less but still very concerned with, is someone to take over. Al Jefferson can do it inside half the time, but what happens when he's ineffective? Who do we know, that we have a chance of getting, that could be that guy in the draft? My vote's Jimmer, as he's such overwhelming experience putting a team on his back and letting them ride.

That's right... I'm not afraid to pickup two guards with our draft picks.

KOC always preaches he drafts the BPA and not by need. We have had some of the worst wings in the league over the last five years. Effective wing play opens up the middle and makes a team much harder to guard. Can you imagine how effective Jefferson would be on the post if we had descent production from our wings? I know a lot of you think Hayward is the next Ginobli, but I'm not convinced yet. I think we need SF and SG. I also think we need a backup PG, and we need to get a backup Center. That's why I think Kanter would be a good pick because he needs to come off the bench initially. If Burks fell to #12, I think he would be an excellent pick.

Is Brandon Knight's leadership that good? If we are after leadership Kemba Walker has a much better and longer track record.

I like short shorts.
