What does Hayward have to do his rookie season to be considered at least a decent pick?

What will it take for fans to change their tune on Hayward?

Will he solely be judged on the stats he puts up? A high +/- ? Showing potential(after all, we know Sloan isn't too big on rookies)? Making some clutch shots or being a reliable shooter?

What will it take for you to look back on this pick and say your okay with it?
 
For him to score 20 PPG to replace C. Boozer's scoring. Hold LBJ and Melo to under 10 PPG when we play them. Block at least 15 shots by Kobe and be a key player in the Jazz winning the Championship next year.

Thats all. No pressure.




Ok not really. I well be happy if he can become a good rotation player that can hit his open shots. Play good solid defense and prove that he belongs on the floor with other NBA players.
 
Knowing Sloan, Hayward will be brought along slowly unless he plays so well he is forced to play him. I don't expect a lot from year one.
 
He is a young 20 and you can't expect too much. I will be looking for how well he moves without the ball, if he is effective at knocking down J's off screens (should be), and can he stay in front of his man on D. He will probably only see 15 minutes a game knowing Sloan so not really worth projecting numbers for him.
 
If he's going to have a Mike Miller like career, just like that guy, in his first year, Hayward should bring 12ppg a game, beating either Wes or CJ for a starting spot.

At the minimum, 9 pick Hayward should have a rookie season like Wes Matthews, who was after all undrafted and fought for time through the wing logjam.

I am already ok with the pick. I was upset initially but I realized I was more upset that the Jazz didn't get a bigman in the draft. I certainly think Hayward was a better pick than Davis. I guess I would have been ok with Aldrich but of all the remaining SF left Hayward has just as good of a resume as the others. (George, Babbitt, Henry) so if the Jazz were going to select a SF I certainly could make an argument for haywood.

Nevertheless, I want to see some production from him but mostly I want to see him hustle his butt off, improve his game and not back down to anyone. He needs to make shots when open. I guess I am looking for similiar type of effort that Matthews gives. As far as production is if he makes the Rookie All-star team then I would be very happy. His production will depend on his minutes but if he could average 10 pts 5 rebounds 3 assists and 1 steal. I would be happy.
 
He has to not be embarrassed and demonstrate that he can hold his own at this level. Other than that, with AK, Miles and presumably Wes ahead of him, I can't expect much more given the lack of PT he'll probably get.
 
Duplicate what Wesley Matthews did in his rookie season. Hit open shots, make hustle plays, defend...about 9-10 ppg, but rebound and pass it better than Matthews.

The problem - he doesn't shoot it, put it in floor or score as well as Matthews. And Matthews is a better athlete so doing that stuff I mentioned above is easier for him than it will be Hayward.
 
I think Hayward is going to be a better shooter than Matthews, at least in a year. Hayward has a pretty shot, Matthews , while being a good shooter, has an ugly shot.

For Hayward to be a sucess in my eyes he has to come in and help the offense run. Hayward is praised for having a great mind and vision, so in our system he should be able to rack up assist and score easily. He also has a pretty good no-step vertical, so I would imagine he would be good at baseline cuts ala Brewer, but not that awesome.
