To Thriller...I have friends in Canada. He is white and his wife is black. They lived in Utah for a while and said she felt very comfortable there, and everyone was very nice to her. I would bet if you ask any of our black jazz players they would tell you the same.

You think I think Utahr is weird because of a lack of diversity? Laughable. Nah, bro, it's weird because of the religious culture that permeates the Utahr lifestyle in almost every facet. A religion, mind you, that is also incredibly different than most mainstream religions.

Every place on earth is different and has a different culture, glad you are comfortable in yours.

Places that are unfamiliar are weird. Utah and SLC area in general are even more unfamiliar to a large amount of people because of the religious culture. Few people have lived in a similar place as there are not very many. Therefore, Utah is classified as weird to a larger amount of people than most states. That seems to make sense to me.
I don't really consider it weird. I just call it Utah.
Sidenote: I generally don't like using the word 'weird'. Although, I'm sure the word was not intended to be demeaning, society has made it that way. Shows an etic perspective of things imo, and I like to avoid that kind of stuff.
Back to TAH: But 'weird' seems a viable descriptor in this case.

PS: I can honestly say that the Mormon religion (which I believe is a false religion and I do not agree with in any way) affects my life almost zero.
Maybe it has a bigger effect on out of towners who come to visit, but for me they are just friendly neighbors living a different lifestyle than me.
