If memory serves, that was because they got stupid and didn't make up a bogus injury. After all, there is a certain amount of pretense that goes into proper tanking to maintain appearances "for the good of the game".
this is exactly where i'm at. Run with Lauri and the kids and put everything into development. We'd be plenty bad and get a good draft pick and hopefully see real improvement in the young dudes

The issue is the team with the worst record only has a 14% chance at the #1 pick. The odds are the same with #2 and #3 and it's 12.5% with #4. Back in the day it was a lock but now... well... look at how The Pistons got ****ed. Some people on this board act like tanking hard guarantees #1 but as mentioned the odds are still bleak,.
We'll take on some bad contracts for even more assets. I'm all for that if we get a stupid nice offer for Lauri.
You might not be far off, but there are definitely teams still looking to dump salary. As to whether those teams meet Ainge’s unreasonable price is another question.
