What to do with Millsap?

What to do with Millsap

Hopefully Favors wins the job and Millsap realizes that he is better suited as our 6th man. Since I don't see that happening(him accepting a bench role), trading him might be the best option going forward. Paul is a defensive liability for us in the starting lineup when he is facing anyone with size on him(which is a lot of guys in this league).

Excellent point; Favors certainly needs to win that starting role. I still question why Boozer started over Millsap in his last season in a Jazz uniform. Millsap seemed ready to start, but Sloan just handed Boozer the position, despite his poor efforts on defense.

If you just out right replace him without Favors earning the job, then I think Millsap would find it disrespectful.

Yeah, he's waited for his chance to start and if he got benched he would be upset and rightfully so

Also why trade one of the best contracts in the NBA? He's making what 14 million total next 2 years? Big Al's making that next year alone

The only way we do trade him is if Favors wins the starting job and Paul refuses to go back to the bench. I hear what you are saying about Al, but I highly doubt we are going to go Favors and Paul in the starting lineup.

Package and trade. Everything points to us adding another big in the draft and Sap is undersized, and is somewhat superfluous with AJ and Favors and Draft Pick. I think it is time we start packaging some of these assets to bring real players into town.

As much as I like Millsap, I think if we have a chance to trade him for Knight we should do it.

If we can get Kanter, Knight & Singleton in this draft would be beyond my wildest dreams...

That would be such an amazing draft. Can Utah get more for him

I believe Favors has already earned the Job. He's a better defender and a Better fit with the other starters. Millsap is definitely the better offensive player but has a skill set that does not mesh with AL.

I agree. That is why I want Derrick Williams so badly in the draft. He is EXACTLY what we need at Small Forward to complement Favors (PF) and Jefferson (C). Read this article: https://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2011-06-01/derrick-williams-insists-i-am-a-small-forward. Williams would almost force Paul Millsap to the bench, where he would be an absolute PERFECT 6th man because of the way he plays. He would be an annual 6th Man of the Year candidate. We then draft Jimmer at #12 overall for more outside shooting off the bench and as our PG of the future. My depth chart:

PG: Devin Harris, Jimmer Fredette, Earl Watson
SG: Gordon Hayward, C.J. Miles, Raja Bell
SF: Derrick Williams, Andrei Kirilenko (if re-signed), Jeremy Evans
PF: Derrick Favors, Paul Millsap, Jeremy Evans
C: Al Jefferson, Mehmet Okur, Kyrylo Fesenko/Ante Tomic (eventually)

I like your idea. This would be an intelligent way to evaluate what we have. But KOC doesnt make the most intelligent decisions, unfortunately.

Well, I wouldn't say that. He did draft Gordon Hayward (huge plus). And he basically traded Carlos Boozer for Al Jefferson (fantastic). And he did trade Deron Williams for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and two possible lottery (one top 3) draft picks (could be absolutely astounding at the end of the day). He also found Paul Millsap in the second round (I still don't know how that happened). I have to give him some credit for that. Overall, I think that he has actually done a pretty good job considering he is trying to make a small-market franchise like the Utah Jazz competitive against the L.A. Lakers and Miami Heat's of the world.

i like millsap, he can come off the bench and contribute a lot. I think we should trade jefferson and get rid of his overloaded contract (depending on the draft pick)

Disagree, Jefferson> Millsap. Yes Millsap makes less but Jefferson can play either PF/C even if he is undersized at center. I would much rather have a rotation of Kanter, Favors, Jefferson then Millsap, Favors, Kanter. Plus Millsap is just 2 undersized, if Utah drafts Kanter at 3 Utah might actually have the bigs to throw against the Lakers and Dallas. Also look what Jefferson brought to Utah the pump fake, Let him teach the younger guys Kanter/Favors, some post moves and the pump fake.
