What to do with Taylor Hendricks year one

Overall there is a chance Sensabaugh is better but his specific talents aren’t really a huge need and are something that isn’t handed over to rookies and his huge glaring weakness is a thing that gets you planted on the bench. If both guys are healthy I am extremely confident that Taylor gets more minutes. Brice’s college defensive tapes reminded me of Grayson Allen as a rookie… and that was against college players. We will see if that was just a focus or commitment thing but he was atrocious.

We don’t have anyone on the team at sf with Brice’s skill set.

Not arguing but how can you tell it wasn’t the knee hampering his defense?
Go watch the clips if you'd like. Maybe you have a different opinion. It wasn't just like he was slow laterally... it was a confluence of things... attentiveness, technique, some physical limitations, and desire maybe? Its just funny how we assume he has this skillset that will translate and all of his weaknesses are waived away with an injury magic wand... then when some talk about Tay Henny they are like "we don't know how good of a shooter he is?".

We currently have a few bucket getters who struggle on defense. Not sure what Sensabaugh brings is super necessary. I like him but I think it will take time to figure out.

Sensabaugh is a far superior shooter.

Hendricks is a good shooter for what he is, a stretch forward who can catch and shoot.

Sensabuagh has every kind of 3pt shot in his bag at a higher %, at a higher per minute volume, and better indicators.

You guys have any ideas why Sensabaugh wasn't drafted higher than whats-his-name from France? The wemby kid. This thread is startng to make me wonder. TIA
Boy... I'm not sure you are ready to introduce some Bilal violence to this convo...

Brice had a knee surgery and some medical red flags. The scouting report is that he isn't very good on defense. Some refuse to believe it, some think its overblown, but that is the basic book. There is also some discussion about getting his shots against NBA players... I get it but I think his success will rest on health and how good he gets defensively. I trust he can shoot and get buckets once he has a bit of seasoning.

So if he's at 43% on "open" then his jumper must tank when it's slightly guarded whereas Brice shoots it the same either way, hence Brice better.
Or the difference in the guys as shooters is not all that different especially seeing as both would be used offball to spread the floor for more seasoned ball handlers. So the question is do you put more size and defense on the court or more ballhandling? I have a hard time seeing coach throw Brice out there to get buckets when he has JC, Sexton, THT and Dunn... also Keyonte as another rookie option.

It's the NBA and the Jazz aren't some kind of amazing open **** generating team, you need a guy who can take a good 3pt look and shoot it like a great look. Plus he can do something off the dribble if he gets run off the line.

The Jazz are not in danger of having too much offense

You can never have TOO much offense... but we were 10th in offense and 23rd in defense last year so it would seem to me there might be more low hanging fruit on improving the defense. Isn't like all Taylor can do is shoot... he got a lot of dunks last year too... those can come off of close outs, cuts, putbacks, transition... but they matter. It is likely that if Sensabaugh is on the court there are two other perimeter options who would be better creating off the dribble. So is it worth compromising the defense? The difference between the guys as shooters is much smaller than the difference between the two on defense.

Tell ya what... you seem really convinced that Brice is the dude. I think its VERY likely Hendricks plays more. So lets just see who Coach Hardy elects to play more minutes. The better player will get the minutes.

I just dont think that rookies generally add to defense (unless they are the elite of the elite and I just dont think Hendricks is that on D) and the position Hendricks more naturally plays is more crowded than Brice's. I just think Brice has a higher likelihood of contributing early (again, he was arguably the best offensive freshman in the nation along with Brandon Miller) and that his potential year 1 contributions are underdiscussed.
