What type of asset is Hayward?

In that stat, he's 15th among shooting guards, tied with Iman Shumpert, and 95th overall.

Yeah, but you have to adjust for being on one of the worst teams in the league. Would be interesting to see where he ranks among players on the 10 worst teams.

The stat corrects for teammates AND opponents. Yes, Gordo playing a role he's not good enough to fill is going to hurt him in this stat relative to where he'd rank playing as a complement to true lead players, but that's sorta the point. Gordo isn't a lead guard. He's also not a perimeter stopper. Despite his decent level of success in spot-up situations in 2 of his first 3 seasons, he's really not a top spot-up guy either. If you have top talent that deserves money, Gordo is a luxury; you can probably get most of his production for a lot less than $10mm by signing one- or two-skill role players. I hope the Jazz aren't the team to give him over $10mm per year.

Cy, Gordo comes in at 1.47 in real plus-minus. Here's a list of players on sub .500 teams with real plus-minus of at least 1.47:

Ty Lawson
I. Thomas
P. Prigioni
Jrue
A. Bradley
Kobe
Korver
Shumpert (tied with Gordo)
D. Carroll
Melo
Josh Smith
G. Monroe
Millsap
Ryan Anderson
Thad Young
A. Davis
Varejao
T. Chandler
Horford
L. Sanders

Here is why Hayward will ultimately gets his big payday.

2011 CBA: Teams must spend at least 85 percent of the cap in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and at least 90 percent of the cap in later years of the agreement.

Free agent list, Hayward looking like the 2nd or 3rd best once all the old all stars are resigned from their respective teams.

They are going to overpay Hayward in order to hit the salary floor? Thank goodness you are not our GM.
