What Would Have to be Included in a LaVine Trade to Make it Acceptable?

What would it take for Lavine to be a positive trade asset with his contract? Be healthy and stay healthy. Probably make the all star game, or put up good numbers on a winning team. What are the chances of those things happening? In my opinion probably low, so I don't think I can flip his contract for anything other than at best neutral value.

How much does his contract limit what I can do for the next three years? If I'm trying to lose and play rookies, not much. In that case I want pick #11. But, do I really want Lavine as my vet on a team that is learning/growing, probably not. If I'm trying to win then I want guys who are cheap and good players, I'm not sure Chicago has anything that would do that.

So basically I can't really think of a scenario where I would think the reward would be worth the risk.

If he’s healthy and plays to 90% of his top end level I don’t think AS or winning will matter much. People say he’s empty calories but if you are scoring at his volume and being efficient it can’t be totally empty. At that point you may get a first and expiring money type of offer. So just like Collins… the money has to be made on the front end… if you get out of jail free or get a nice little kicker on the backend then awesome.

Maybe, but the Bulls are more of a short term focused team,so maybe they know the rehab isn't going well and he won't be ready to start the season so that makes the owner push for a trade harder.

This is kind of were it could be a perfect storm for Utah to upgrade talent and tank. Treat LaVine the same way you treated Sexton off his surgery. Bring him along slowly and sell it to him as an extended rehab year. The dude willingly got surgery to end his season last year instead of waiting, so it's not like he is opposed to sitting

I think just like John Collins both parties signed his contract cuz the options weren’t great elsewhere and they hope to move him for value… then the value wasn’t really there and things kept getting worse. I think both sides have wanted to move on and the injury can’t help things. White popping now creates a conundrum that makes it hard to increase his value even if he’s healthy. The pistons/Magic may still bite without much of a sweetener but with money tight they don’t have a ton of options.

I hate the idea of going after Lavine, so, yeah, I guess under totally unbelievable circumstances might I get on board. That, and the idea that @Saint Cy of JFC just floated of a recovery season for Lavine.

This season feels like the last opportunity the Jazz have to tank while keeping Lauri on-board so I really am just praying they seize the opportunity. And I kinda just have a strong, visceral dislike of Lavine.

By the way, anyone have any idea what the nature of the dynamic is between Lauri and Lavine?

Ayo isn't redundant to anyone we have in the roster. He can play multiple positions. He doesn't have to be a starter. You have complete clown shoes on if you aren't asking for him in a deal because you are worried about a logjam.
