Home Alone! Yeah, Amazing.. Almost all of them.. Reminds me December and the Christmas.. Its nice

I thought it sucked sooo bad. Just horrible.
Super slow moving and the bad guy/demon or whatever was extremely slow and dumb and the whole premise was stupid.

There was a scene where these teenagers are putting all these appliances around a pool as a trap (guitars, amps, tvs, hair dryers, microwaves, lamps, etc etc etc etc) and the scene goes on and on just showing the kids bringing out and setting up more and more electrical things and plugging them in.
I was able to grasp the concept of the plan after 30 seconds of them going about setting the trap, but it shows them setting things up and plugging things in for like 10 minutes. Its like come on get on with the movie.
There were a lot of scenes like that. Not much going on through most of the movie and a lot of nonsensical ****. (dumbass puppyeyed kid knows that if he ****s the girl he will get the curse yet still really really wants to with no reservations about the fact that if he sleeps with her he will most likely die a horrible death)
The main characters in the movie confront the dude who started all the trouble (demons chasing them trying to kill them) and they are not even really upset at him for unleashing this terror on them.

The girl was pretty hot though so that was nice........... didn't even get a boob shot though despite a decent amount of sex taking place throughout.

This is an interesting critique of the movie. So, just so I'm understanding you, you would fellate Mr. Gyllenhaal if prompted but you just didn't care for the film, right?

There should be enough clues there on screen for viewers to be able to decipher what's going on and what some of the hidden messages are. (even if it requires multiple viewings)


The fact that we have to go away and watch the Extras and listen to Director's interviews or find possible plot "theories" online I think ultimately is a failing on the part of the Director.... I do think some of the clues could have been a bit more obvious. We want to peel the orange, but we need to know where to start.


It's the same issue I have with Mulholland Drive. I don't think I will ever understand 100% of what that movie was about and that's a real shame because it is such a great movie..

Where did you get that the movie got low ratings? Granted, IMDB gave it 6.8 out of 10 but RT gave it a solid 75% out of 100. I just thought it should have been rated higher.

This idea that a movie "should" be anything is where you and I differ. It's a film. I think it's whatever the director wants it to be and if there are multiple interpretations of the material doesn't necessarily make it a bad movie in my opinion.

I also want to clarify what I said about watching the DVD extras. My co-worker watched the extra material if only because he's that guy. That being said, the director did not give anymore insight into the movie. He made it the way he made it in order to foster conversation. I see nothing wrong with that. If anything, I think learing more about the writer of the book the movie was based on gave more of an understanding of the movie.

In respect to Mulholland Drive, some movies are not meant to be understood 100% completely. I think some movies are meant to be watched over and over again, if only to pickup something new. Kind of like Fight Club.

Ok. What about the movie did you find to be "beyond pretentious?" Give me an example. Also, what was difficult to understand? I thought the narrative was pretty clear though the meaning is left up to the viewer.

Yeah of course the Director can make the movie whatever he wants it to be I'm not saying he can't, it's a free country after all. I guess it depends how wide reaching an audience you want your film to be. If you have this great message or story that you want to tell, but only a handful is ever going to "get it" or recommend it to friends and families, then your audience is gonna be pretty limited. If the Director is OK with that - fine - who am I to argue.


A film is a form of art at the end of the day and if you've got the money, yeah you can make it to do/say/portray whatever you like.

Surprisingly, at least for me, this movie was written by Nick Cave and the soundtrack was done by both him and Warren Ellis. It's definitely a good watch if you love westerns.

There are quite a few beautiful shots throughout the movie in very barren landscapes. The heat and discomfort come through the movie very well. And it's got Ray Winstone in it!

87% on RT.

I think that's exactly what happened here. I mean, if you're going off of box office receipts alone, with Prisoners getting 122 million and Enemy getting about 3.3 million, Mr. Villenueve knew exactly what he was doing. My guess is he was really impressed with Jake on Prisoners and asked him to do this Enemy.

I think a lot of actors and directors do blockbusters to pay the bills and then work on side projects or smaller budget films to sratch that creative itch.

Yeah and to me anyway movies that transcends that or is able to bridge that gap between artistry and at the same time also being able to reach a wide audience & appeal is the most successful ones.


Lost in Translation, In the Mood for Love, etc, come to mind.
