Agree about beautifully shot. Especially "gold canyon". (The one about the dude hunting for gold)

Tom Waits in "Gold Canyon" was my favorite visually and strong story telling wise. i also thought it was placed at just the right spot within the film. "The Gal Who Got Ratlled", "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs", and "The Meal Ticket" were the other standouts for me.

Enemy is on Netflix, every time I watch it I have to watch it again. Great movie.

I absolutely loved Prisoners. (gyllenhall and the same director teamed up for both Prisoners and enemy)
I remember liking enemy quite a bit. Gonna watch it again over the next 2 days.

I Vitelloni(1953)-Yet another Fellini masterpiece. 11/10 Highly recommend. Stanley Kubrick made a list of his top 10 movies in 1963 and this was #1. It might be the most visually stunning of all the Fellini films.. His stuff is so good it's hard to differentiate though.

The Maltese Falcon (1941) - This is simply one of the greatest films ever made. 12/10. A true Noir Classic. John Houston, Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre all at the top of their game.

Mr Hulot's Holiday (1953) - This is a good old comedy. Guy goes to a beach resort and hilarity ensues. The few films I've seen of Jaques Tati have been good enough where I'm gonna continue to go thru them all. This is the first appearance of Mr. Hulot in his films.

Empire of the Sun(1987)... Spielberg, Christian Bale, John Malkovich, score by John Williams... Whats not to like about this film? I couldnt tell ya.
 
In a Lonely Place(1950) - 13/10 This **** is hilarious, the main character has a porno name Dix(on) Steele and there's such a funny line by his agent at one point;

"He's Dix Steele. And if you want him, you've gotta take it all, the good with the bad."

The claim that Humphrey Bogart is the greatest actor ever as far as I'm concerned is legitimate, i'm not even sure theres a close 2nd place tbh....

As he said in this movie "There's no sacrifice too great for a chance at immortality."

If I ever reach a point in life where this movie doesn;t crack me up, i'll be ready to be put out to pasture.


of all the Noir films i've seen this one seems to capture the essence of the genre the best... and I love Film Noir, I actually believe it's the greatest American genre..
