Yeah, it was ridiculous as hell but I enjoyed it all the same.

It's back in the U.S.. It does have a thing where there is a bonsai tree down a sheer cliff face and there's a bunch of drama surrounding that. The main villain is Kreese's old war buddy who tricks Daniel into thinking he's on his side when he's really just messing with him, like 80s catfishing.

Looks like I combined two movies. II was back in Japan. The tree was in III.

Yep.

Cobra Kai has been a decent series overall, imo. Very watchable, people to root for, and a decent look at how people being good guys or bad guys is often just a matter of our point of view, or theirs. Lots of really dumb things as well, but you can overlook those because it is pretty entertaining.

They've done a good job at being more complex and sophisticated while not shying away from the full cheese roots that they sprouted from.
 
The Last Duel now streaming on HBO Max is worth a watch. Given the right material Ridley Scott can still make a great film. I was really intrigued of where this was going and it delivers.
 
Went to see a few over the past few weeks.

First, went to see the new Spiderman. I really enjoyed it. I liked the cross-over with the other characters, won't say more than that for the sake of spoilers, if anyone cares. I thought they handled that part really well all things considered. I liked that a couple of them got their redemption. Overall one of the better sequels in the MCU.

I give it 7 out of 9 stars, because I do not like 5-level rating systems, but you have to keep it an odd number so you cannot cop out with a 5 out of 10 on everything, and why make it a 5 star rating system if you are giving half stars? Just go with 9 already and pick a number.



Second, went to see the new Matrix movie, Matrix Resurrections. It was ok. I liked it better than either the 2nd or 3rd installment. It might be ok if they use it to springboard into something new, but for the most part it felt just like they rehashed everything to make a buck. No real change with any character at all. They are all who they are frozen in time, running through new action sequences, but older so the action sequences had to be a lot more tame because John Wick's old body can't handle the flippy-spinny **** anymore. An enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours, but really no more substance than that.

5 out of 9 stars.



Third, went to see the new Ghostbusters movie, Ghostbuster Afterlife. It was basically just an homage to Harold Ramis, and if you didn't have a good understanding of the original Ghostbusters, or who the original characters were, you would probably be pretty lost in this one. The action was ok, the child actors were fine, the story was the same but had a few unique twists. I liked the increase in scale of the final solution. I also didn't mind the arrival of the original dudes. No character gets much depth, other than the one who is actually dead through the whole thing. But for fan of the franchise in general, it was a good tug at the old nostalgia heart-strings. If you are not already a fan you probably won't get much out of it. I grew up with Ghostbusters, having seen the original in theaters 3 times. I didn't care for the 2 sequels, but I enjoyed the premise and the characters are fun. So for the nostalgia it was pretty good. As a movie, in and of itself, not so much.

4 out of 9 stars, but 6 out of 9 for the nostalgia factor.

I hated the new matrix movie by the time it ended.
Liked ghostbusters ok.
Will watch spiderman soon

Yeah I get it about the Matrix. So much rehashed. Wasted potential as well. About half-way through I knew where it was all going, it was pretty obvious, and just took it as a new romp through the Matrix with fun action stuff, that made it easier to like for me.
 
The new matrix had some good moments and some bad moments. Case in point the new morpheus did a good job while the new mr smith did nothing for me. It feels like they didnt learn anything from the sequels. Which was my biggest complaint. When they fly Neo to the new zion to meet Jada Pinkett Smith's bad old lady makeup charachter I totally checked out mentally.

I wish they hadn't tried to bring back literally everyone, that was a bad idea. They could have still shown us the interaction with Neo and Trinity and how important that is while introducing new characters and new bad guys and a new problem to solve. Neo could have taken the place of Gandalf and be the wizened old mentor for the new blood fighting the rogue machines. It needed to be escalated but it ended up being basically the same as the new Ghostbusters movie and just a nostalgia-driven cash grab. Sad really.
