What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Black Bag

A spy thriller featuring Michael Fassbender, Kate Blanchett, Pierce Brosnan, directed by Steven Soderbergh…

A recipe for success right?

Well filmed, directed and acted,.. but at 1.33 hour running time it felt like we only got half a movie.

After the ‘Ocean’ films, has Soderberg done anything decent?

I thought it was great. Loved that it was short. Too many movies are unnecessarily long.

Eh.. the movie didn’t only attack Mormonism, it tackled the idea of organised religion as a whole. You ranted on as if the movie was being disingenuous about Mormonism and nothing else…

Maybe the movie didn’t get the specifics or the little nuances of Mormonism right but the movie as a whole was really well made (A24 studio after all), was much more thought provoking than your run of the mill horror flick, and was a way above average movie (90% on rotten tomatoes).
I guess you missed this comment...

I know most people won't care about the missionary dynamics being crap in this movie, but it is a general turn off for most mormons, and even former mormons, watching the show.

I said that my comments were based on the viewer having a specifically mormon perspective. But I do not think it really touched on much else in terms of religion as a whole, imo. As soon as that is where it was kind of going, into the religious philosophical weeds, then the horror took over. And that is where it went off the rails.

Anaconda. Just go see it. Crazy fun. Nowhere near an actual "good movie", but a hell of a lot of fun on a Saturday night.

I vaguely compare it to Cocaine Bear. I mean, it is nothing like cocaine bear, but it is evocative of the insanity of cocaine bear, which is a good thing. Lots of fun. Will watch again.

This. Especially when they spend the extra time specifically pointing out how up to date they are with required social issues being front and center in movies and shows instead of just telling a good story that happens to be about a gay couple or something. Check out most of the recent stuff from Disney for ample examples. I couldn't care less about the proclivities of the characters in a story, and I applaud representation in all stripes, but there is no need for 30 extra minutes of screen time to highlight how progressive all the relationships are. Just tell a good story that includes people of whatever background the story needs or is about, stop trying so hard to shoe-horn all of the progressive checkboxes into every story.

Another one we watched recently that did this really well was "Together" on Prime. Definitely worth a watch. A body horror movie that actual goes at gender identity an entirely different way that works really well, imo, and is really wild at the same time. Worth the watch.

Anaconda was weird, but it made me laugh many times.
